Description
After years of hobby brewing and an increasingly ardent interest in brewing as a profession — including countless brewery tours and immersion in local and online brewing interest groups — John Martin and fellow home brewer and co-founder Ken Broadhead launched Confluence Brewing in 2012. John left his construction management day-job to pursue Confluence and his passion for beer making full time.

The brewery is itself a confluence of John and Ken’s love for Iowa and craft beer. The result is a microbrewery that shares Iowa’s attributes of honesty, humility, hard work and a sense of humor. Confluence also has Iowa’s knack for being a delightful surprise to those who actually experience it.

Confluence cares about the creativity and craftsmanship that goes into making excellent beer, and knows that excellent beer can bring good friends together.

Bottle from Mr Watts, Thanks John! Hazy lemon yellow in color with a small frothy white head that persists. Earthy light peppery spice and bits of stone fruit on the nose. Earthy light clove and big pepper flavor with some honey like maltiness and bits of pomme and stone fruit. Lots of yeasty ester and flavor reminiscent of Unibroue. Bubbly mouthfeel with a medium body and a spirited level of carbonation, Pretty damn nice saison right there.

750mL bottled Nov 2016, shared by Chris on 5/28/17. Thanks, I think...
Cranberry-auburn color, light-to-minimal haze and fairly well-carbonated yet not able to support a head, probably due to the spruce.
This should be the commercial description for the beer,
"We start with a grist of both two row barley and German pils malt. We ferment the wort warm with a French yeast strain to produce a delicate pepper phenol character graced by mild fruit esters and a strong attenuation. Light noble hops are added to the boil to achieve an herbal, fresh grass character that complements the lively nature created by the yeast. We then DESTROY it with so much cranberry and spruce that you will have no idea if you’re drinking a glass of walrus piss or liquefied cheeseburger.

I think this beer, of the tens of thousands I’ve had, may have the MOST overdone adjunct character I’ve ever tasted. Pretty incredible.

Can in trade from jcwattsrugger, thanks for the opportunity! Slightly hazy deep yellow with a thin bubbly white head that dissipates quickly. Earthy spicy grainy with a hint of sweet bread and cereal maltiness. Spicy earthy hops are faint with a bit of light fruitiness and a hint of sulfur. Not horrible
