About
The Verbeeck-Back brewery has been around since the end of the 19th century, when it became one of the most beloved independent breweries in the northern region of Belgium. The brewery was, is and remains a family affair: no monks or big corporations in sight. The secrets of its successes were passed on from father to son until they became fathers themselves... and so on. However, the sons of the sixties-generation had other plans. In 1966, the brewery dozed off for a short nap.

In 2015, a new generation has risen and so has the brewery. The Verbeeck-Back family bloodline was reinforced by the De Cock family. Together, they have formed the formidable, reassuringly Belgian-sounding name Verbeeck – Back – De Cock. VBDCK. This new crop of VBDCK heirs to the family tradition of Belgian quality and craft has literally been digging up history by its roots. They are ripping through the nostalgic silence with KEREL, the beer that says it all, and the transformation of the original brewery and family residence into a new place to stay.

Pale yellow colour with no head. Aroma has loads of tropical fruits. Taste is a bit flat and stale. No gas either

Poured into Monks glass:) what do you think Kerel about my rated? piwo nalane do kielicha westvleteren, po belgijsku, pozostaje spora piana, srednio trwala, spora metnosc, w smaku slodowe, mocno slodowe jak wiekszosc klasztornych piw belgijskich, malo nut farmerskich, lekko kwasnych tak specyficznych dla stylu biere de garde. no ale i tak jest smaczne, porazka z wygladem butelki no i z tym napisem na kapslu.

28 May 2021. At Maarten's birthday party - cheers to all! Hazy black, frothy, beige head. Aroma of prune, blackcurrant, toast, jam, sweetened fondant, chocolate powder. Taste has sweetish prune, fig, pear, sour blackberries over a toasty malty body, bit nutty, old chooclate accent and spices. Herbal hoppy finish, ethereal almost, lingering toast, prune, earthy chicory, bit dry-metallic. Medium body, slick texture, fizzy carbonation. Kind of misses the point.

Bottle. Color: Lightly hazy orangish golden, stable off-white head. Aroma: Floral and light citrus hop. Taste: Floral and some citrus hop, moderate to over moderate bitterness, More fruity and malty at the finish, with subtle notes of grapefruit, pineapple and some mango. Medium body, average carbonation. Well drinkable, quite nice for a supermarket IPA.

Solid saison. Nice dank earthy funk. Also a bit of citrusy acid and sweetness to balance it, perhaps a little too much. But overall good. Ams bottle shop

Bottle from local AH XL. Color: Slightly hazy golden, frothy white head. Aroma: Yeasty, fruity and herbal notes, malty. Taste: Yeasty, malty, subtle fruity notes of stone fruit, citrus, lemon peel. Pretty hoppy. Herbal hints. Just under medium body, just under average carbonation. Quite bitter, dry-ish and fruity finish. Saison or Belgian Pale Ale? Very drinkable.

Bottle picked up at Meny Frederiksberg and shared at home - hazed amber with a white head. Sweet malty with some non descript vague citrus fruity notes, sweet caramel malty, medium body, subdued hoppy grassy bitter finish. Not doing much for me.

Bottled. An amber beer with a lazing beige head. The aroma has notes of caramel, citrus fruis, herbs, flowers, and malt. The flavor is sweet with notes of nutes, caramel, citrus fruits, herb, flowers, and malt, leading to a bitter finish. Odd inbetween beer

13/V/21 - 33cl bottle as a gift, shared @ home, BB: 14/X/22 (2021-387) Thanks to Alengrin for the bottle!

Clear orange blond beer, small creamy to aery irregular off-white head, pretty stable, non adhesive. Aroma: pink grapefruit, some tropical fruits, juicy, passion fruits, floral as well, little soapy impression. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: very fruity, tropical fruits, passion fruits, mango, nice gentle bitterness, some grapefruit, malty. Aftertaste: grains, hay, cow fodder, some citrus, tropical fruits, pretty juicy, grapefruit. Decent one!
