Served in tap at the brewery. Pours a deep, dark reddish brown color appearing black in the glass. No head. Aroma is bitter roasted malts with some lactic and metallic notes. Taste is much better with bitter roasted malts, toffee, caramel, dark fruits and lots of leafy, minty hops. Medium bodied.

Served from a very fresh growler from the brewery. Pours a hazy orangish yellow color with a fairly large head, poor head retention and lacing. The aroma is very much like a hefe, full of doughy malts, yeast, caramel and subtle spice, which I assume is the juniper but doesn’t show much character. Taste is doughy malts, pineapple and much more of the juniper than in the aroma. It is subtle, but actually balances with the rest of the beer fairly nicely, though a very tad bit stronger would be perfect. Medium bodied.

I don’t know what I was thinking when I originally rated this, but that rating was... lacking. Anyway, tried this again. Pours a clear ruby color, dark, with nearly no head. Earthy aroma with notes of toffee, chocolate, nutty notes and faint berry-like fruits. The taste is nutty, leafy with toffee, chocolate, caramel and a light raisin note in the finish. Medium bodied. Nice beer.

Served on draft at the brewery. This appears to be the same beer, but they have dropped the drunken weasel moniker this time, and sadly, it’s not nearly as good. In fact, this is an abomination that went directly back to the bar after I choked down about four sips. Pours a hazy, almost muddy copper-brown color. Aroma is wheat, banana and smoke. Another person in my party got distinct asphalt notes from the aroma, and while I did not, I could see where he was coming from. Taste is banana, smoke, caramel and some salty, meaty off flavors. Very thin bodied. Epic fail.

Fresh growler from the brewery. Pours a pale and clear golden yellow with a large head. Low head retention and some specks of lacing. Very grainy aroma with some grassy hop notes. Taste is grain and cereal, predominantly with some sweet fruity notes and grass in the finish. This comes up a little bit one-dimensional and finishes a tad bit flat. Medium bodied.

Keg at South Street, 11/3/14, a similar recipe on the grand re-opening under new ownership. Pours a slight hazy dark brown with a medium sized creamy off-white head. Decent head retention. Aroma of toffee, raisin, brown sugar. The taste is toffee, cherries, raisin, roasted malts, hoppy finish. Medium bodied, mild lingering bitterness. Nice upgrade. Original score 3.2, new score 3.6.

From a growler. Pours a golden auburn color with a small frothy white head and nice lacing. Nutty toasted malt aroma. Nutty toasted malt taste with slight caramel and subtle hop notes. Malty and bitter finish. Medium bodied. Very nice.
