Growler from the brewpub. Pours pitch black with a thin offwhite head. Good head retention and lacing. Complex hop notes in the aroma, including resin, peppery, earthy and citrus notes, as well as some dark roasted malts. The taste is coffee, roasted malts and a bitter hop finish. Medium bodied. Interesting beer.

Served on draft at the brewpub. Pours a clear dark reddish amber color with a thin offwhite head. Decent head retention and lacing. Aroma of chocolate. raisins and faint hoppy notes. The taste is fairly heavily hopped with nutty notes and a faint, fruity sweetness. Medium bodied and the texture seems kind of muddles. No crispness that you would expect for a lager. Way too heavily hopped for the style. Not very dunkel like. Average beer.

On tap at the brewery 8/3/10. Pours black with only the dusting of a head. Aromas of coffee, roasted nuttiness, and hops. Thick and oily, some citrus and piney notes, as well as coffee. Very tasty.

Growler from the brewpub, 4/21/10. Pours a very slightly hazy light golden color with a medium sized creamy head. Decent head retention and lacing. Lots of carbonation visible. The aroma is nutty and bready notes with some very earthy and herbal hop notes. The taste is bread, nutty notes, herbal/grassy hops, banana, toasted malts. Medium bodied, smooth and fairly assertively carbonated. Decent beer.

on cask-pours a retaining tan head and brown color. Aroma is soft medium malt. Taste is soft medium malt, hint of earthy hops. Medium body, soft carbonation. Nice, easy cask.

Nitro tap at the brewpub. Appearance and mouthfeel notes taken from a sample at the brewery, immediately from the tap, and aroma and taste notes taken from a growler filled at the same time and opened about 20 minutes later. Pours a chocolately brown color, hazy. Medium creamy offwhite nitro head. Aroma is primarily dark coffee, some roastiness, cream and dark chocolate. Taste is rich coffee with a very bitter espresso note in the finish. Milk chocolate is the dominant chocolate with highlights of dark chocolate. A bit of a fruity note and some mild bitter hops. A lactic note lingers on the tongue. Smooth, milky, creamy with a bit more assertive carbonation than expected. Thin-medium bodied. Good beer.

Served on nitro at the brewpub. Appears black in the glass, though the lighting sucks so take that with a grain of salt. Creamy tan head. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma of bourbon, oak, light fruity notes and light roasted malts with a bit of chocolate. Taste is bourbon, oak, light roasted malts, spicy hops. Smooth, creamy, full bodied. Nice effort.
