13%, 2020 version. Very dark brown with thin soapy head. Aroma is primarily oak with some nuts and raisins. Tastes slightly sour and oaky. Wet wood. Still some raisin sweetness. Too long in the barrel perhaps.

Bottle at home shared with Laura. Amber color ofc, medium sized off-white head. Aroma and flavor are malts, slightly iron / metal, leaves, a little dusty maybe. Rather bitter finish. Hmm okay.

Bottle at home, quite the gusher. Black beer, small head. Aroma is peat, malt, smoke, roast, hint of wood, hint of coffee. Taste is the same, peat, roast, coffee, malt, light wood. Nice

Session IPA by one of Spain’s well-known craft breweries, from a can shared with Craftmember. Thickly foamy, egg-white, cobweb-lacing, firm and dense head, clear pure yellow-golden robe with visible sparkling, misty with sediment. Aroma of white peppercorns, toasted garlic, grapefruit peel, dried wormwood leaf, dandelion, tonic water, bread crust, dry crackers, green onions. Crisp onset, clean and dryish with vague unripe banana and green pear notes, medium carb and oily mouthfeel, feeling relatively ‘full’ for its ABV. Grainy, bread-crusty pale malts in the middle, under a very wormwoody, grapefruity and peppery hop bitterness, tonic water-ish and rooty in its lasting bitterness yet without completely destroying the maltiness; dank notes of toasted onion and old grapefruit peel make this West Coast-like experience complete. Sharp, crisp, a bit dank, sleek and to the point, without unnecessary frills: this hits its target immediately and masterfully. Session IPA in first generation style – as if no ‘haze movement’ has ever happened.

Huge stout (15% ABV, no less) by this familiar Spanish craft brewery; bottle from Etre Gourmet shared with Craftmember. Pale mocha-beige, medium thick but opening, dot-lacing head on a pitch black beer. Intense aroma of cocoa, teriyaki, molasses, toasted pecan nuts, mocha, nori, coffee cream, cold latté, clear alcohol (as in gin or vodka), bayleaf, bladderwort, beef stock, dried blackcurrants. Some light sweetness at first (dried fig) but more pronounced umami (oyster mushroom, teriyaki, black olive), soft carb, very full and oily body, notably thinned by alcohol in an early stage; still, thick slabs of caramelly, chocolatey, toasty and eventually coffee-like bittersweet malts fill the mouth cavity, with more bitterness in the end (and lingering umami at first – so still remaining subdued in overall sweetness). Ends roasted bitter with that sweet chocolate aspect remaining, very spicy-hop bitter and of course very boozy, with strong whisky-like alcohol burning through the malts. A bit too much so for me, but of course unsurprising at this ABV. Why all that muscle-flexing? The result is more than decent, sure, but striving for a perfect imperial stout at, say, 10% ABV could perhaps be a more noble purpose than trying to impress with something this powerful… Not really my thing, but nevertheless impressive, in all.
