(Aluminum bottle 35,5 cl) Clear, pale pilsener golden with a tiny, rough, white head. Lightly sweet aroma of pale malts. Light body with a whiff of sweet malt and then a dry finish without much bitterness. Easily drinkable but thin. 270207

(Aluminum bottle 35,5 cl) Pale, golden with a small, white head. Vague aroma of malt and cardboard. Incredibly thin and watery body - actually it’s almost impossible to pick up any flavours. And no bitterness either! But absolutely fresh and quaffable - just like a glass of cold tap water is. Not unpleasant in any way. 270207

bottle - Pours clear light amber with a very thin head. The aroma was sweet with honey, as was the flavor. It’s thin bodied and other than the honey there really isn’t much going on in the flavor. The finish is also sweet. It’s not terrible, but is quite a ways from being good.

(Aluminum bottle 35,5 cl) Clear, orangey brown with an off-white head. Aroma of roasted malt - in a typical American fashion. The body is shockingly thin and watery. A bit of roasted malt, but the predominant flavour is one of extreme and unpleasant metal. Some acidity and no real hoppiness. 090207

Gluek Royal Select Honey Bock. 12 oz brown pop top can. Crack the lid to reveal a slight chocolate milk and beer aroma. Aesthetics are clear and brown, root beer dark but not opaque. Has a few bubbles rising in there. Not an overall bad looking brew. Taste is good, perhaps a little watery. It does have mild sweetness of honey. Very well behaved and nothing offensive. Carbonation is below average. Does have some similar flavors as the red bock. It is hard to believe this would have any more than 3.2% alky, it is very smooth, somewhat like drinking chocolate soda. Yeasty mild chocolate aroma hangs to the last sip. Finish is pretty nice with no bitter linger. Mild and repeatable. Better than La Rossa but not as good as Schells caramel bock.

So, many of you raters have driven me to Glueck. I have constantly read that these are really, really not worth the money. Saw a couple of these at my beer store. Was $2 too much? I thought it was but this is the first time I’ve seen them. Which gluecks do I have the pleasure of tasting? Well, looks like the red bock and honey bock, in 12 oz cans none the less. From what I read here, should taste alike. I guess we’ll have a go at the red bock first, sounds best. Nice red can that says royal select on the front. Has a cool drawing of a ram with big horns on it. Pours darkish brown yellow in my new coach steeler stein. Tan thin head that lasts. Odd almost, but not quite, bitter flavor that is like mild hops or malt. Decent carbonation that seems a bit creamy. That odd flavor is about it, something parallel to but not like the Saranac flavor. I wonder if all gluecks have this attribute. Pretty refreshing with a repeatable session beer personality. Much more enjoyable with less after taste when compared to a birra moretti la rosa but not quite the impressive enjoyable personality of a Schells caramel bock. Finish is a touch watery. Not quite as good as a Penn St Nick but this is OK.

Bottled, metal-bottle. Dark copper in color, almost brown, clear, and with a beige head. Roasted aroma with licorice, malt and caramel. Flavor much the same. It is quite thin and watery in the mouth, and I find it a bit boring. (061222)

Bottle. Sweet creamy malt and metallic aroma. Golden yellow with small head. Creamy/caramel malt flavor with metallic finish. Really very good for a cream ale. Without the the metallic flavor and aroma it would have gained at least a half a point.

A deep red beer with a bubbly light brown head. The aroma is sweet with notes of herbs, malt, and caramel. The flavor is sweet with notes of caramel, roasted malt, and herbs. The mouthfeel is oily but thin. The end is slightly bitter and slighlty dry.
