On tap at GJBF Osaka 2015. A beautiful orange-reddish brown pour with a plum like sweet fruity aroma. Rich malty fruit flavor - very nice taste and quite a solid beer.

Tap at Yokohama Beer Fest. Rich dark malt nose, chocolate, fudge, caramel. Not overly sweet, nice bitter finish of earthy hops. Solid stuff, and not big on the citrus. Taken by pleasant surprise.

On tap at Eni-bru. It pours a dark fudge looking brown that is almost black with a beige filmy head. Interesting nose of dark malts and floral hops. Medium to light bodied. The beer has an intensely floral/herbal hop bite with a good dose of chocolate and some roastiness. Really interesting, nothing clashes though the flavors remain distinct. Probably the coolest beer I have had from this brewery, I honestly didn’t think they had it in them...

330 ml bottle, labelled as Hakone Shichitou Pale Ale. I have had it for half a year, so I guess it is not overly fresh. Pours hazy orange, small head, some foam even stays a bit. Aroma is sweet, malty, candy, maybe some bittering hops also somewhere but they are not easily found. Taste is not unpleasant, at least in the beginning. It has malty body, very little on the hops side going on - and what is is coming out in the bitter-soapy aftertaste. Drinkable but that’s not the only quality I am looking in a beer.

On tap at the GJBF in Osaka 2014. A cloudy light gold with a fairly thick fou head. The aroma is sweet fruity bready malts. The taste is a fruity earthy bitterness with a soft smooth mouthfeel on a satisfying body. Solid.

Bottle via Rakuten, served in a half-pint glass. A cloudy honey gold pour with a thin filmy white head. The nose is yeasty with a somewhat weizen like wheaty yeast aroma that exhibits a touch of spice. The body is med-light with a very effeverscent carbonation that gives is a round but fairly strong mouthfeel. The taste is yeasty, a bit of spice, some cloves but somewhat of a saison like flavor which the body really reinforces. A bit of funk & somewhat peppery, decent but it doesn’t really evoke an English Pale Ale for me - it is too yeast forward with the malts not really being highlighted in any way. It doesn’t seem as bad as previous ratings but more of a wheat ale or possibly a weizen...

330 ml bottle from Hakone. Pours reddish brown, mahagony with a thin bubble layer. Aroma has some malt warmness, sweet berries and wet cardboard. Taste is quite smooth, has a bit of carbonation, slight soft fruitiness and ending up in a bitter but not very intensive aftertaste. Lasts long though and feels dry. Actually not too bad, much better than available macro’s in the market. Having said that, it is also not too exciting.

Bottle. Ordered via Rakuten. Served in a pilsner glass. It pours a cloudy very pale straw gold with a thick fluffy head & no lacing. The aroma is mostly malty grains, a bit earthy. It is being served cold so at the moment I get no real hop character at all. The taste is not bad, malty grains, slightly corn like, crisp finish with a bit of bitter hops in it. It avoids being overly sweet which I like. As it gets warm it starts to get a more & more bitter taste that is a bit metallic even and dropped it from a 3.3 to a 3.1 OK

Bottle order via Rakuten, roughly 500 yen or so. Served at home in my Otaru Weizen glass. Best Before May 24th, 2014.Very light cloudy straw gold color with a foamy eggshell white head that vanishes pretty fast without any lacing. Bready, wheat, banana, mild lemon & light cloves aroma. Medium to light bodied with a fairly silky mouthfeel though as I drink more I start to feel it is a bit watery. The taste is of a solid weizen, spicy cloves, wheat, some banana. Fairly solid. This is actually pretty good but as noted by KyotoLefty & myself the main drawback is the too light palate.
