About
The "Grain d'orge" brewery is a family brewery that was founded in 2002 by Benoît and Viviane Johnen. It is located in the village of Hombourg, at the limit of the 3 borders. The production of the brewery has increased year by year since its creation to reach in 2016, 4000Hl of beers.

Its main beers are Brice, Joup, Canaille, Grelotte, The Pom, Triple, Double and Pure d'Aubel. To this are added others, so-called beers on contract. They are tailor-made for small debits or special events.

The combination of ingredients and natural spices makes Grain d'orge beers unique and the layout of a spacious brewing room respecting the standards imposed by the FASFC guarantees their quality. In addition, a banquet hall has been fitted upstairs. This is available for rent but also serves to welcome groups who visit the brewery in order to end pleasantly with a tasting.

Draught Good, fairly stable yellowish fine head over fully hazy orange beer with greenish shine. Paint, fruity, sourish, milk-ripe wheat, white bread. Sourish flaovur, bit undistinct, underlying malt & wheat. Rather fizzy, tends to be overcarbonated; taste falling away fast. Bit boring, if not really bad. Wonder what makes that sourishness - not only the wheat, I hazard.

bottle, pours brown, no head. Aroma is dark malt, some spice and amonia. Sweet dark malt with a spicy finish that chases the mild alcohol burn down. Not bad but it smells horrid.

bottle. Hazy copper colour, large head. Medicinal nose. Sweet and malty with a touch of fruit, and some spicy hops. Medicinal character. The overall impression: some good flavours but too thin and watery for my liking.

bottle. Hazy golden yellow, large white head. Medicinal aroma. Malty, hoppy and slightly fruity with a medicinal character. A bit thin and watery overall, I expected more flavour than that.

Cloudy reddish brown with medium off white head. Sweet aroma with roasted malt, caramel adn yeasty notes. Sweet flavour with roasted malt, caramel and ripe fruits.

bottle. Hazy brownish colour, large beige head. Fruity nose. Medium-bodied, malty with some spices and a touch of fruit. Dry and hoppy in the finish. The 8% alcohol are hidden very well.

bottle. Amber-brown colour, slightly hazy, mid-sized head. Medium-bodied, flavours of chocolate and caramel dominate but the sweetness is not overwhelming. Slightly hoppy in the finish.

Medium white head. Hazy pale yellow body with floaties. Intense anise, coriander, and ginger aroma with mealy notes. The ginger particularly stands out. Sharp dry herbal watery taste with syrupy notes. Light, fresh, clean. Mid-bodied. Dry herbal syrupy aftertaste with peppery gingery notes. Nice, and very unusual. (0.33l bottle from gr0ve.)

Bottle. Hazy very pale yellow, white head. Hoppy and yeasty aroma, a bit malts. Smells promising. Flavour is yeasty and malty, slightly hoppy bitter finish. Very thin body, especially considering the ABV. A bit of a disappointment.
