[Cask at Akkurat, Stockholm] Deep golden. Eviden spicy cardamom aroma. Medium sweet with soft, rounded mouthfeel. A touch of old english marmelade adds an interesting twist to the spicy flavour. Finishes with low bitterness.

Cask handpull at County Hotel, JDW, Ashford. Black beer with beige head. Wonderful coffee aroma. Like opening a fresh jar of Maxwell House. Bit powdery in mouth, coffee everywhere with a dry powdery finish. Not exactly balanced. Enjoyable, but not subtle

(Cask at Oliver Twist, Stockholm) Colour is dark ruby, almost mahogany, with little head. Nose is malty and fruity, with hints of dried fruit, quite roasted. Taste starts malty with notes of dried fruit (raisins, figs, apricots), turns drier in the long bitter finish, with distinct hoppy, resiny notes and hints of caramel and toffee. Good stuff as expected, I’m hardly ever disappointed with brews from this brewery.

(Bottle 50 cl) Pors black and opaque with a rough, beige head. Aroma is pure ashtray. Mediun body, very burned malts, ashy with distinct coffee notes. Very dry and burned, bitter finish. 110606

Bottle picked up at SH Jones Bicester. Pours pale golden in colour, aroma is lemony and hoppy.Flavour is citric but also hoppy again and very, very nice a real summer beer. Nice bitterness and overall a great very flavoursome beer that slipped down a treat.

Cask gravity at Catford BF 06. Pale gold with lasting white head. Citric hay aroma. Verging on the farty, but then good lemon curd style fruit kicks in with excellent hop finish.

Smallish brown head over opaque black body with some dark red at edges. Sweet roasted sharp almond aroma with notes of gasoline. Very sweet oily burnt malt taste with dry burnt aftertaste. Maybe slightly more watery than expected. Peppery, almost hot. Good, but a bit too dry and sharp, without offering too much in return. (0.5l bottle.)

Tap @ Spuyten Duyvil. Poured into a wine glass. Color is black with beige head. Aroma had alcohol mixed with chocolate and of course coffee. Taste has a very present bitterness and roastiness Light on body. Past the coffee aroma which is not even all that, this beer offers very little.

(Cask at Wenlock Arms, London 22 Apr 2006) Well, you don’t stumble across this beer cask conditioned every day, so I had to check another time to be sure the sign really said Dark Star Imperial Stout. And could you belive my luck? It did! Pitch black colour, with little, but firm, beige head (beautiful!). Nose is roasted with lots of liquorice and some crowberries (a bit like blueberries). Some sweetness. Lovely, but a bit restrained. Taste is nicely roasted, with black rye bread, black coffee and liquorice. A very well balanced sweetness that turns drier towards a bitter-sweet, very long, finish. Full bodied, but still like velvet. Warming and deceptively strong, but easy to drink. This beer is massive and absolutely wonderful. It is not as hoppy as the American Imperials Stouts tend to be, but still a masterpiece. Had to have another (although it might set my head spinning, but it was worth the risk).

(Cask at Wenlock Arms, London 21 Apr 2006) Colour is golden yellow, with amber hints. Nose is malty and fruity (grapefruit), although a bit discreet. Taste is malty, earthy, rather sweet with a long, hoppy and bitter finish. Very enjoyable, would never have guessed 6,2% abv.
