Description
The Schneeeule Brewery was founded in 2016 by Master Brewer Dipl. Ing. Ulrike Genz. After years of developing the recipe and thorough scientific study of the topic of the Berliner Weisse as a part of her Degree at the TU Berlin, in the spring of 2016 it was finally time and the brewery Schneeeule Berlin was founded. Finally, Berlin has a brewery producing original Berliner Weissr. The goal of the Schneeeule Brewery is nothing less than to give Berlin a piece of it’s culture back: Berliner Weisse. After both devastating world wars, the beer once known far beyond Berlin’s borders as the “Champagne of the North” is now almost only available as barely drinkable mass produced industrial beer. The reputation of the once National Drink of Berlin has been ruined. Master Brewer Ulrike Genz is doing her utmost to change this and to return the Weisse where it belongs; in every Bar and Restaurant worth its name in Berlin, and in a proper glass. All Beers brewed by the Schneeeule Brewery are bottle fermented with Brettanomyces and have matured in the bottle for at least 2 months. Just as it was done 150 years ago.

Bottle from the Kickstarter, drunk in a luxury tent in Iseo after Kinderdisco. Yellow color, no head, interesting flat ginger nose with lemony hints. Pretty sour on the tongue, a bit like a bitter-lemon-ginger ale mix but with much less sugar. Asian-seasoning kinda flavor that would probably make for a great pairing with a lemongrass garlic salmon dish.

Bottle courtesy of Jonas and Ursula, cheers guys. Had this at home Thursday 22nd May 2025, listening to Huw Stephens on 6Music, it's Round Table tonight. Pours yellow without a head, in fact the carbonation is very muted. Aroma was alarmingly a bit vinegary so I thought the worst but I guess gherkins are pickled so this probably explains that. Dry, tart, acidic but the dill adds a nice touch to this, sharpish and the vinegar touch on the nose isn't present in the mouth. Would be lovely on a warm summers day, but regardless it's nice today.

Bottle courtesy of Jonas and Ursula, cheers guys! Consumed at home in the company of Jonas and Ursula after a lovely hike in the hills behind Deggendorf Saturday 17th May 2025. Pours straw colour with a little haziness, not really much of a head. Refreshing, zappy, a little sharpness, some lemon and a sour creaminess, it's good.

Crowdfunding bottle. Pale cloudy yellow, low head. Floral (surprisingly enough) nose, citrus, light funk, somewhat more sour than other Schneeeule we had this weekend, sparkling dry mouthfeel, mostly straight sour citric finish.

Bottle courtesy of Jonas and Ursula, cheers guys! Consumed at home in the company of Jonas and Ursula after a lovely hike in the hills behind Deggendorf Saturday 17th May 2025. Pours hazy dirty yellow. Nice bretty aromatic with much of a head. Not sure that I am picking up lavender but there's definitely a light floral touch. Nice zippiness, a little bit of brettiness, lemony, good.
