Description
The reason Jamie Emmerson and Irene Firmat started Full Sail in the first place was to build a company that was completely different from the ones where we’d previously worked. It wasn’t about business as usual. It was about finding our calling in life — about truly appreciating our “human resources,” and balancing work, life, family and friends in a way that makes life truly worth living.

Determined to make world-class beer in our own backyard, one of our first, and perhaps best, decisions was to invest in new, state-of-the-art brewing equipment. So we bit the bullet, laid down our borrowed cash, and spent the better part of 1987 installing the new system. Our love for the environment is what drives our sustainable practices, so pure water, local ingredients and responsible processes are poured into each and every tasty pint.

1998 keg they pulled out at the brewery. I've only ever had a handful of beers this old. I was still in high school when this came out. Age seems to have done a lot of good things here. Smoothed all all the edges and left a solid barley wine. Lemon, tobacco, orange peel and a hint of vanilla. Some date, prune. Pours dark maroon with decent head. A little booze. Tap at brewery.

From their cellar, server said 2016 or thereabouts. Roast and bourbon. Coffee and caramel. Fig and leather. Pretty well integrated bourbon, which is appreciated from this side. Black pour with good head and lacing. Bittersweet and boozy finish, though booze is light.

16oz can from Hops & Bottles. Light yellow, golden, hazy, tight, silky head. Faint malty aroma, bready, sweet. Brew rolls across the tongue, velvety feel. Taste is equal parts sweet and hoppy, light citrus zest. Very sublime and easy to drink.
