Description
Established in 2012 by renting of the former Pitfield's plant at Moreton, Ongar, which was taken over in 2015. Though based at Pitfield's brewery, it operates independently. In mid-2018, the brewery closed it's plant and started cuckoo brewing at Red Fox Brewery, Coggeshall.
Note - Beers have not been brewed for some years as the owner concentrates on his Colchester pub, the Queen Street Brewhouse, but the brewery remains active on companies house.

Pigs Ear. Light haze on this gold beer, residual white head. Palate is light and semi dry with modest carbonation. Lovely rich dried fruits, orange slightly dominating. Mellow cognac and a slight woody dryness. Little brett tang. Light finish with a spicy aftertaste. Very nice!

Cask gravity at Pigs Ear 2013. It pours clear golden amber with a minimal white head. The nose is earth, honeysuckle, oily, earth, wood, pear, apple, must and toffee. The taste is rich, oily, nectarine, wood, earthy, varnish, spice, hay and honey with a dry, warming finish. Full body, fine carbonation and oily carbonation. Nice depth, interesting and tasty. Good fun.

Bottle during the High Speed Tasting Pt. I on the train to the Black Country Bus Tour. This one I bought at City Beverage Co. Pours clear brown with a creamy off-white head. Burnt, charred malt nose, some toasty bread, a bit of dry cocoa. Light to medium sweet flavor with more toasty bread, mellow cocoa and torched earth. Light to medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Dry, toasty bread on the finish, some dry milk chocolate. Very tasty beer.

Chelmsford Beer Festival.Cloudy amber ale. Bubbly pale tan head. Palate is smooth and semi dry with low carbonation. Sweetish beer. Sweetish caramel malt, slightly viscous. Dried fruits. Pinch of spice and a whisper of herb. Finishes smooth. Tastes okay but is somewhat chewy which really reduces drinkability.

Chelmsford Beer Festival. Clear dark amber beer, small bubbly tan head. Palate is dry with fine carbonation. Some bitter toffee in the malt. The hops are even bitterererer! Touch of marmalade but itโs mostly noble hop bitterness. Dry finish. Bitter linger goes on and on. Bitter bastard of a beer!
