It all started in a 1,300 square foot unit in 2014 and by 2015 we were squeezed for space. Working meant maneuvering around stacks of grains and bottles and gymnastics in the brewery was strictly banned. By mid 2015, it was just too small for our growing brewery so we took the plunge and moved – across the road – to a much larger unit where we are now. Our brewery is an 8 barrel system. Each brewers barrel is roughly the same as 163.6 litres or 287.90 pints. Which means we have ourselves a nifty 2,300 pint brewery.

500ml bottle purchased at Aldi for home. The label says unfiltered, so I was prepped for a hazy beer, but really the pour plus the color and lack of any head made me think immediately that this is past it's prime. Aroma of old hop cones, resin, some basic grains, spelt, bran muffin. Taste is thin, carbonation isnt bad, but the overall mouthfeel and flavour rings of a beer not very well thought out and past it's best date.

Bottle from Lidl, Carrick-on-Shannon [190318]
A2, N5, T5, P3, O10
Dark amber, very murky, frothy white head dissipates, light lacing, far too much yeast sediment
Aroma - Soft fruity caramel malts, some earthy roast
Taste of caramel malts, dab of toffee. some twiggy hops, not much else
Palate - Soft carb, medium body, light sweet. Finish has some light roast.
Overall - Says it's unfined / unpasteurised / unfiltered on the label - taste is just OK, poor appearance, rather rough hewn

50cl bottle from Tesco. Pours a very murky brown. Initial flavours are a big hit of tobacco which is followed by a sour blackberry flavour. A strange mix. It is quite refreshing with a surprisingly lively carbonation. Definitely a grower but doesn’t really work overall.

Bottle shared at the Cotteridge Convention 2015. Thanks, EvilEmpire. Pours cloudy amber-gold with a creamy, white head. The nose has some citrus rind and mellow farty notes. Light sweet flavor, mildly astringent, with more citrus, pale bread. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Sweet finish with more pale bread and light citrus accents. So so.

Bottle shared at the Cotteridge convention, 24/01/2015. Thanks to EvilEmpire for this one. Murky golden brown coloured pour with a lasting cream head. Aroma is earthy herbal, hop, grainy. Flavour is composed of tangy orange, berry, and some resin. Palater is grainy, with moderate carbonation. Lingering dirty earthy grains.

Bottle split at the Cotteridge Bash, 24/01/15 thanks to Dave UP. Murky orange amber with a big olf off white head. Nose is twiggy, pale malt, straw, bitter fruit resonance. Taste comprises bitter orange, straw, apricot, pal malt, grain, citric notes. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. So so.

Bottle at the Cotteridge Convention thanks to EvilEmpire. It pours cloudy, dirty amber with a thick white head. The nose is sweet, grainy, boiled veg, earthy and orange sponge cake. The taste is sweet, acrid bitterness, boiled cabbage, sugary, dough and sponge cake with a dry, sweetish finish. Medium body, high carbonation and foamy mouth-feel. Sweet, grainy and full of vegetable action.... Not great!

24th Jan 2015: bottle shared at the Cotteridge Wine meet, came via Yorkshire and Dave I believe. Strange one this and not one of my favourites of the tasting day. Hazy, murky amber body with a weak, thin white topping. Caramel notes in both the aroma and taste, some unwanted vegetable flavours within the taste which I didn’t take too, highly carbonated and just weird, but not in a good way.

Bottle share. Cotteridge Beano. Hazy amber. Thin, white head. Caramel. Vegetable water. Way too fizzy. Finishes bland, and thin.
