7/8/2019. Sample courtesy of danlo, cheers Ed! Pours virtually colourless with no head. Aroma is sweet, fragrant rice, flowers, honeydew melon and a hint of chocolate. Medium sweetness and very light bitterness. Moderate body, slight sticky texture, no carbonation. Nice sweet fragrant finish.

A blond ale as a special release? On tap at Bakuon and I've heard these are supposed to be the next big thing in US brewing but I find the style on the dull side. The color was orange with a beige head rather than blonde to me but otherwise they hit the nail on the head with a lightly fruity malt forward brew featuring honey graham notes that hid the 6.5% ABV well.

Bottle from Yamaoka. Served in a snifter it has an impressively thick beige head on a black body. The aroma is fruity with soft cacao/chocolate and roasted notes. Medium bodied with a raspy carbonation and dry finish. The taste is roasty, nutty, oats and done dark chocolate in the finish. Pretty stout like more than a Bock but a good winter beer.

Tap at the Kobe Craft Beer Summit 2016. A deep good gold with a thick head of foam and fruity hop aroma. Light bodied and semi-dry the taste is herbal, peppery and earthy. Decent stuff.

Tap at Takumiya. Brilliant gold, clear, low head. Huge ginjo-ka nose, peaches, pepper, orange, spices. Smells like a daiginjo. Light malt in there too. Don’t get much in the way of hops. Taste is very sweet, though, and it begins to cloy after a few ounces. Ricy (no rice used), fruity, honey. This is a very interesting brew but I wish they could get it to attenuate more.

Tap at a sake place in Shinbashi, Tokyo. Poured cloudy willow, decent white head. Deep yeast spices complete with banana in the nose, quite sturdy feel to it. Flavour has some cloves spice, more banana and weizen yeast. Again, surprisingly well brewed, that’s a solid weizen.

Tap at a sake place in Shinbashi. Haven’t really seen any Umenishiki beers on tap before. Pours golden with a fluffy white top. Nice fresh grassy hops that are covering beautifully crisp malty base. Quite good bitterness there, surprisingly well-crafted, decent pilsner.

Tap at Bakuon 16. Golden orange, hazy. Nose or orange, grapefruit, biscuity malt and a touch of cat piss, but just a touch. good use of Nelson hops. Tasty, Nelson with orange, stone fruit, rich biscuity malt. A good drinking IPA from them.

Bottle from Daiei. Light bubblegum and banana notes with a touch of clove. Slightly watery for the style with maybe a touch too much carbonation. Sweet with some light tang towards the finish. Refreshing, but thin.
