20/8/2023. Bottle shared by The Blackhaddock. Pours hazy pale golden orange with a small frothy off-white head. Aroma is sweet, fruity, malt, grass, touch tropical and herbal. Fairly sweet with moderate bitterness and a touch of tart. Moderate body, oily, spritzy carbonation. Quite okay.

330ml bottle shared with blackhaddock in his beer cave. Misty golden amber appearance, good white head. Bit of a herbal bitter side to this, settling somewhat with a distant sweetness coming into view. Ok overall.

21st June 2023, new region and rare beer tasting with minutemat (and a sample for Grumbo) at my place. Thanks cyclist Shirley for the 330ml pull-tap bottle of this: BB 12th August 2023. Fairly clean golden body, white crust. Decent enough Pilsner, some light bitterness tempered by a solid malty base, nothing to get excited about, but it's a new regional rate for all three of us.

Keyaki. Crazy name sold it to me. Sweetness, caramel, very smooth, interesting. Little bit of booze. Very low carb. Nice. Good on them for doing something interesting. I like Umenishiki. Extra points for the name. --- Beer merged from original tick of Umenishiki Wood Finish and Assemblage on 09 Sep 2019 at 16:05 - Score: Appearance - 6 | Aroma - 8 | Flavor - 8 | Texture - 8 | Overall - 8. Bottle from Izuya. Golden brown colour with rapidly fading head. Aroma is fruity and boozy. Apricot, bubblegum, belgian yeastiness, sweet boozy maltiness. Taste is similar. Quite full on, sweet and boozy, apples, and other stewed fruits. Initially floral too, and the finish is a little bit prickly. Quite a lot going on. Will definitely look out for this again. --- Beer merged from original tick of Umenishiki Aromatic Ale on 09 Sep 2019 at 16:05 - Score: Appearance - 6 | Aroma - 9 | Flavor - 9 | Texture - 6 | Overall - 8. Bottle from a prefectural satellite shop in Shinbashi. Pale blond colour, slight cloudiness. Not much head at all. Aroma is very herbal, lemon, floral, quite different, bit of booze. Taste is similar, quite interesting, little bit of vanilla, lemon, herbal, liquorice too. Slightly grainy. Kind of different. Interesting. --- Beer merged from original tick of Umenishiki Blanche on 09 Sep 2019 at 16:05 - Score: Appearance - 6 | Aroma - 8 | Flavor - 8 | Texture - 6 | Overall - 8. Bottle from the Shinbashi prefectural shop. Dark brown colour, with small golden head. Aroma is slightly smoky, bit of soy sauce, roasty, bit of light chocolate. Taste is different, still chocolate roastiness in the aftertaste, but bitterness too. Initial taste is fruity, some sharpness, maybe booze, sweet too. Tastes a bit thin maybe, has the booze but not the body to back it up. Maybe one beer too far for me today, but still not bad. Should probably try again some time. --- Beer merged from original tick of Umenishiki Bock on 09 Sep 2019 at 16:05 - Score: Appearance - 6 | Aroma - 8 | Flavor - 7 | Texture - 6 | Overall - 7. A blond ale as a special release? On tap at Bakuon and I've heard these are supposed to be the next big thing in US brewing but I find the style on the dull side. The color was orange with a beige head rather than blonde to me but otherwise they hit the nail on the head with a lightly fruity malt forward brew featuring honey graham notes that hid the 6.5% ABV well.

Bottle from Yamaoka. Served in a snifter it has an impressively thick beige head on a black body. The aroma is fruity with soft cacao/chocolate and roasted notes. Medium bodied with a raspy carbonation and dry finish. The taste is roasty, nutty, oats and done dark chocolate in the finish. Pretty stout like more than a Bock but a good winter beer.
