Pours a dark amber-brown color with a medium light tan head. Thin and sticky lacing. The aroma is very roasted, sweet and malty. Rich-bodied and very toasty and dry, with a pleasantly sweet malt and nut flavor. Just a bit of hops make it well-balanced and nice to drink. The finish is toasted malt and caramel with a hint of bitterness. Overall this is an amped up Brown Ale that I could enjoy regularly.

This beer is a rich yellowish-gold color with a medium thick white head and fair lacing. The aroma is very kinetic - spice, yeast, banana and hops abound. Medium-bodied, with a flavor reminiscent of both a Belgian and a strong Hefe. Citrus, spice, hops and bananas all vie for attention. There is almost too much going on in the flavor. Spicy alcohol and sweet fruit and yeast in the finish. I liked this one substancially more than the 03.03.03, but I think it would improve a bit with more age.

Bottle Pours dark brown.black with a frothy tan head. Aroma is terrific nice rich smokey coffee and dark pitted fruit. Very strong smoked flavor with extra hops as Stone’s description states. The higher ABV is noticeable as well as the coffee flavors and charcoal. Quite bitter actually. Feel is very rich and smooth, thanks to the extra malt. Finish is a bitter charcoal taste that lingers a long time.

22oz Bottle Pours a pale light orange, amber with a medium sized head that is very dense and creamy but eventually setled out leaving very thin but even lacing. Aroma is certianly hoppy but also strong grapefruit and other cirtus rinds. Tastes imediately very bitter and robust but full and heavy. My mouth feels like a big Hop bud. I think if I ate a Hersey bar right now, it would taste like Cascade Hops. The feel of this IPA is very nice. Smooth, heavy, just nice. No surprises on the trailer. An IPA with characteristics that put me off, and turn me on. Glad to have tried it. Stone is certianly not shy with their offerings.

Even after all of these years this is one of my favorite IPAs .+++ Sampled from a 12 oz bottle this fine brew pours a clear orange color with a medium sized yellowish head. There is a strong hop aroma with both flowery and grapefruity elements. The flavor is heavily hopped with much grapefruit coming through but there is also a strong malt presence that balances this beer far better than their Ruination.

Bottle. Roasty and smoked aromas. Blackish beer with a big beige head. Smokey, roasty flavor with a sweet malt backing. Complex flavors but very drinkable. Nice.

22ozBottle Pours black with a very small dark tan head that is gone before you know it. No real lacing either. After a min, it looks like the glass is painted Black on the bottom. Taste is of anice, espresso, wood smoke and molassas. Very smokey, almost chard flavor at the end. Mouth feel is thick and heavy. Stone is shooting ya straight when they say"..like used motor oil..." The smokey bitter trailer lasts a long time.

Pours a nice orangey-amber color with a medium creamy eggshell white head. Aroma is nicely earthy with an herbal and fruity hop character. Very well balanced, a nice melanoidiny malt presence is clean and well defined without being thick, hop flavors are herbal grassy without being especially distinct. Finish is balanced with a modicum of lingering bitterness.

Bottle. Golden-amber beer with a big off-white head. Aroma of sweet grapefruit with some caramel backing. There’s some balance here (if you can call something that’s still dominated by hops balanced). It’s smooth for a beer of this type. Bitterness prevails in some grapefruit/tar flavors, but it’s relatively easy to drink. Less malt and assertiveness than an arogant bastard.
