Description
The Bruery® is a boutique craft brewery based in Orange County, CA, specializing in experimental and barrel-aged beers since 2008. Founded as a small, friend & family run business, The Bruery takes it’s unique moniker from founder Patrick Rue’s family surname.
Patrick picked up homebrewing as a hobby, later to become an obsession, as a distraction to the banality of law school. Soon he was winning numerous awards for his beers and driving his wife, Rachel, mad with the messes that he would leave on the kitchen stove. Upon finishing school, he took it upon himself to draw up a business plan rather than study for the California Bar exam – a risky endeavor that shows through still today in the creative, genre-tilting beers that The Bruery prides itself on.
The Bruery is founded on the excitement that Patrick felt in those first years of homebrewing and we continue to strive for that same passion in every aspect of our business today. We never stop challenging ourselves to develop distinctive & imaginative beers, constantly pursuing improvement in all that we do. We brew dozens of original beers each year with our list of ingredients and inspirations growing perpetually. Our collection of oak barrels has also become a primary element of our brewery. Nearly half of our beer is aged in wine or spirit barrels bringing forth flavors reminiscent of the Belgian countryside or classic American distillers.

750 ml bottle courtesy of Sparky27. Pour is hazed cloudy golden yellow with a one inch head that falls quick. Aroma of earthy, barnyard straw and slightly clove honey sweetness. Taste is grainy dusty, fresh cut hay, straw slight barnyard, the clove is there from the nose, but not really any of the sweetness that was present. Quite a bit of black pepper spice. Very dry finish. Palate is medium, high carbonation, extremely dry and dusty finish. Clean and quite drinkable. Thanks for this one Eric!

Tap at Sac Brew. Pours a dark orangey brown with a significant orange tinged beige head. Aromas of caramel and citrus? Full bodied with mild carbonation. Flavor of sweetish roasted caramel, spice and citrus. There’s a pervading fruitiness that seems plummy. Almost seems to be a bit of canteloupe. Nice mouthfeel. A bit sweet, but not sticky. Finishes with a slightly balancing tartness, but dry it is not. Reminds of an aged strong ale in some aspects. Good experience.

Bottle #81. Rich toffee brown color with no head. Brown sugar and bourbon aroma with dried fruit. Rich brown sugar and slight molassess flavor with bourbon and light spice/light wood. Medium bodied. Very low carbonation (will someone start a thread about high priced bottle with no carbonation for this beer?). Lingering brown sugar, caramel/toffee, bourbon, woodsiness, and a slight metallic twang. Lack of carbonation is definitely hurting it.

Location: On tap at the Ginger Man in NYC, 4.5 oz glass as part of a flight, 6/27/09
Aroma: Sweet and spicy nose, fruity, peppery, some yeast
Appearance: A cloudy golden-orange color
Flavor: Has a nice subdued sweetness, a few different fruity flavors and a nice spice, similar to the nose
Palate: Full bodied beer with a nice dry finish
Overall Impression: I thought this one was pretty good, it's interesting, you can really taste the spice there, and it drinks pretty nicely, doesn't taste like it's 8%. A pretty solid beer, I believe this is the first thing I have ever tried from the Bruery, and I look forward to tasting more of their offerings in the future.

Courtesy of Tampabrew. Pours dark dark brown with deep purple hues and full, nearly frothy, mocha head. The aroma is sweet with dark grape jam, fruity granola bars, pancakes and vague spiciness. Interesting aroma that seems to do its best to avoid description. The taste is both dry and sweet at the same time with grapes, apples and muted roasted and slightly dusty grains. The flavor then begins to take on a white wine quality. This is pretty nice to drink but also a bit odd.

Bottled. A golden beer with a dense off-white head. The aroma is sweet with notes of citrus, spices, among them black peber, as well as lighter notes of malt, straw, and fruits - peaches and pomerans. The flavor is sweet with strong notes of black peber, and medium notes of yeast, malt, citrus fruits, peaches, and coriander, leading to a dry lightly bitter and lightly tart finish.

Tap at Sacramento Brewing. Served in a tulip. Poured a light orange/reddish color with a white head that didn’t last long. Sort of citric funky aroma. Medium body with fizzy carbonation. Flavor: Tart; Citric; underlying funk. Finishes astringent. Tartly tasty brew. Drinks way too easy. It is really good.
