The Bruery® is a boutique craft brewery based in Orange County, CA, specializing in experimental and barrel-aged beers since 2008. Founded as a small, friend & family run business, The Bruery takes it’s unique moniker from founder Patrick Rue’s family surname.
Patrick picked up homebrewing as a hobby, later to become an obsession, as a distraction to the banality of law school. Soon he was winning numerous awards for his beers and driving his wife, Rachel, mad with the messes that he would leave on the kitchen stove. Upon finishing school, he took it upon himself to draw up a business plan rather than study for the California Bar exam – a risky endeavor that shows through still today in the creative, genre-tilting beers that The Bruery prides itself on.
The Bruery is founded on the excitement that Patrick felt in those first years of homebrewing and we continue to strive for that same passion in every aspect of our business today. We never stop challenging ourselves to develop distinctive & imaginative beers, constantly pursuing improvement in all that we do. We brew dozens of original beers each year with our list of ingredients and inspirations growing perpetually. Our collection of oak barrels has also become a primary element of our brewery. Nearly half of our beer is aged in wine or spirit barrels bringing forth flavors reminiscent of the Belgian countryside or classic American distillers.

Cloudy orange with a lasting white head. Strong and complex phenolic and spicy aroma, with citrus and pineapple notes. Sweetish spicy flavour with herbal hop notes and a little bitterness, some yeast and warming alcohol. Really complex and delicious

Slightly hazy golden with a big but disappearing white head. Strong spicy aroma with notes of coriander, ginger, cinnamon, cardemum and pepper, along with a little citrus. Dryish spicy flavour with a slightly tart edge. Way too much spice.

Bottled. Slight hazy color, no head. Aroma of some strange vegetable, bit clove, some malt. Sweet taste, bit fllowery. Ginger, clove? I guess it were yams then.

Growler thanks to JohnC. Pours with a hazy glowing gold and a large fluffy white head. Aroma of tangerine, apricot, florals, oak and coriander. Very nice. Taste is orange, coriander, vanilla, oak, tannic, and Christmas spices. Creamy carbonation. Great, spicy Belgian.

Draft. Amber beer with a whitish head. Grapefruit and light pine aroma. Nice piney flavor with light grapefruit. Medium bodied. Good bitterness. Grapefruit and pine linger.

A nice witbier but I’m not sure what character comes from the dark malts. Touches of phenol and wheat in the nose, and some distinct coriander. Vague fruitiness in the flavor. Pretty refreshing on the whole.

750 mL bottle from Beer Run in Charlottesville, VA. Pours a hazy orange tinted lemon yellow color with a large billowing white head. Good head retention and fair lacing. Aroma of basil, lime, other spices, candi sugar. Taste is strong lime and basil along with candi sugar, caramel, other citrus notes and something a bit peppery. Medium-full bodied. Good beer.

On cask at Max’s in Baltimore. Pours a hazy, translucent, straw colored yellow with a lacing white head. Aroma is floral with some sweet citrus fruits, sweet and very inviting. Flavor starts with a strong, but not over powering, sweetness that melds to some gentle bitterness or aged hops with some spices and a little earthiness. Dry finish, slightly sweet. Very enjoyable.

Sampled on Cask at Max’s in Baltimore. Pours a slightly translucent ruby brown with a very thin, spitty, white head. Aroma of toasted grains, rye, caramel, a little bit of nuts. I think the cask pour killed the nose a little bit. The flavor was very nice, grainy, bready with some spice from the toasted rye, earthy and chewy with some lingering sweetness. I really liked how well the rye came through in the mouth.

Yep, I too am in dept to THE tpd975 for this amazing treat. Out of the growler it poured deep amber with tan head. The aroma is big ole bold holy shit! yummy with sticky ripe smashed plums and dates to go along with the ripest dark cherries, oak, and oak dustiness and a bit of heat. Wow! The taste is thick and chewy to start with maple syrup goodness and oak moving quickly into aged dark fruit notes like stewed raisins, plums, figs, dates and dark red cherry fruit meat. It gets slick with sludgy sweet malts to midway as maple syrup and caramel take over into the finish. This is good. I hope they can make more.
