On tap at the Alibi Room, pours a hazy dark amber with a medium beige head. Aroma is faint, with notes of toasted nuts and bready malt. Flavour is true to style, with toasted nuts, dry toffee and lots of bready malt. Well-balanced and fairly flavourful for the style. Decent stuff.

On tap at the Alibi Room, pours a cloudy pale yellow with a small white head. Aroma is very subtle, with notes of light smoke. Flavour is about the same, with slightly more aggressive smoke, atop some corn malt. Pretty decent, but certainly nothing special.

Draught at the brewery
Hazy deep blond color with creamy head. Mild aroma, a bit puckery, papery. Soft and dry mouthfeel; papery malt flavor, with traces of cereals; correct bitterness but no interesting hop traits. Some glue and yeast in the final.
Simple Pale Ale, drinkable, but lack of character.

On tap at Steel & Oak, pours a cloudy orangey yellow with a very large white head. Aroma brings out a good combo of smoked malt, and banana / clove. Flavour is much the same, finishing with an intensely citric note. The smoke is well-incorporated. Nice one.

Appearance - 6 | Aroma - 6 | Flavor - 7 | Texture - 6 | Overall - 7

On tap at Steel & Oak, pours a cloudy amber orange with a medium off-white head. Aroma brings out a hybrid of an American and English ingredients ale, with piney hops, English biscuity malt, and a little toffee. Flavour is very similar, bringing out dry bready English malt, dry toffee, and piney hops. Well-balanced and flavourful for a usually boring style. Good stuff.

On tap at Steel & Oak, pours a cloudy bright amber orange with a small beige head. Aroma brings out dry bready malts and a light touch of grass. Flavour is very bready malt-oriented, without much pilsner quality. It leaves a rather metallic tinge on the finish. Not very pleasant to me.

On tap at Steel & Oak, pours a hazy golden yellow with a medium white head. Nose is very light, with floral hops and biscuity malt. Flavour is fairly light but well-balanced, with floral hops, biscuity malt, and a lightly tart citrus component. Quite interesting for the style - slightly off-kilter in the subtlest of ways. Good stuff.

2014-07-22, draught at the brewery, 6-4-6-3-13=32
Cloudy light amber color with creamy head. Like a Pale Ale, not much ESB, with light yeasty aroma, some vegetables bitterness, strong bitterness, light papery malts, yeasty final.

2014-07-08, draught at St. Augustine’s, Vancouver, 6-4-7-3-13=33
Cloudy red-copper color with small head. Mild aroma of yeast and caramel. Round mouthfeel; strong caramel flavor, strong bitterness and strong yeast character; lightly dusty in the final; it’s slightly sweeter and more fruity/estery than a British ESB, but still a good beer.

2014-07-22, draught at the brewery, 6-4-6-2-12=30
Light amber color, hazy, with creamy head. It has a strong cereals character, husks, light vegetable bitterness, and not the grassy presence of the first time I tried it.

2014-06-26, draught at St. Augustine’s, Vancouver, 6-4-7-3-14=34
Hazy amber color with compact head. Delicate aroma of malt and cereals. Nice clean cereally malt flavor, with an accent of straws; correct bitterness with a light grassy touch. The final is a bit dry, astringent and just too bitter.
Solid. Will get back to this one.

Draught at St. Augustine’s, Vancouver
Cloudy blond color with orange hue; small compact head. Overall it’s a modest Hefe, with not much to tell, with to much carbonation, some bread, a hint of smoke, light acidity, and dry finish.
