Bottle from the brewery. Alt made in Cologne? Go figure! Rather mild nose, a bit of caramel, brown sugar, apple. Deep orange-brown, hazy, with a tall bubbly head. Flavor is toasted malt, caramel, bread, very earthy. Not so sweet after the mid-palate, with a strong, bitter finish and also a bit husky, with notes of apple and chocolate. Rather interesting alt. Bitter, dry finish. Rather full in body. Worth a try.

Bottle purchased at the brewery. Unrecognized MJ 500! The nose is grainy, malty, bready, with some lemony hops as accompaniment. Color is pale golden, and it is hazy but not super cloudy. The head is low. Flavor is rich and malty, bready. Not exactly sweet, but rich. Hops are lemony and lead to a prickly, peppery finish. On account of the yeast, the body is fuller and a bit heavier than the normal kolsch, with a bit of esters. The finish is peppery and pleasant. Not as refreshing as the filtered version, so I suppose better in the cooler weather. A nice change, though and much better (condition) than the bottle of Kolsch I got from them.

Schnapp-Flasche: Pale golden, hazy, small and persistent white foamy layer, moderate bitter-sweet aroma of fruity - exotic - hops with a dryish grainy background; moderate and quite dry bitter flavour, light bodied; slightly lingering dryish grainy and mildly piney finish. Good summer drink...

330ml swing-top bottle thanks, as ever, to Kolschtrinker. Pours gold with a faint mist, moderate white froth atop. Aroma has straw, lemon, butterscotch, sweet grain, citrus. Taste continues with a moderate sweetness, sweet malt, citrus, lemon, straw, and a woody herbal bitter afterglow. Fine.
