Description
The history of the Hofbräu brewery goes back to the 14th century. The acquisition of the “Prew-Haus” on the town square in 1487 by Peter Turmair is considered to be the birth of the Hofbräu brewery. Josef Neumeyer and his son Joseph run the Hofbräu brewery in the 6th and 7th generation, respectively. The Hofbräu beer is traditionally brewed exclusively from regional raw materials.

bottle, bought at the brewery. Clear amber-brown colour, mid-sized head. Mild, flavours of caramel and toffee, very slyghtly hoppy. To my opinion it more resembles a Dunkel than a Bockbier. Nice nevertheless.

bottle, purchased at the brewery. Clear yellow colour, mid-sized fluffy white head. Hoppy nose. Shy malt flavours with aromatic and bitter hops. Shy hints of cardboard and vegetables. Rather hoppy for a South German Pilsener. A solid Pilsener from a nice brewery.

bottle, bought at the brewery. Clear golden colour, large white head. Hoppy nose. Intensive malty background with lovely flowery hops. Slightly fruity. It is not like a Märzen at all but strongly resembles a good Bohemian Pilsener, a very good Czech 12° lager.Very well balaced, well matured with a smooth carbonation and creamy mouthfeel. A very pleasant surprise indeed.
