Can from Geers. Hazy yellow, quickly thinning, white head. Aroma of blood orange, mandarin peel, pineapple, lime, sea salt, kiwi. Taste has sour mandarin, peach & kiwi, quite juicy, bittersweet blood orange then with a salty edge, low in wheat and heavier on citric freshness, supported by sourdough-like maltiness. Tart, fruity finish, low hops (blood orange effect does linger), slightly lactic. Medium body, slick texture, average carbonation. Utterly drinkable and refreshing.

Brand new Totem beer (still without official label even at the time I am writing this), the barrel aged variant of their highly distinct Speculoos Stout – I’m in for a treat. Thanks to Meeki for the can! Moussy, thick, mocha-beige, dense head over a black beer with wafer-thin mahogany edge. Expressive and powerful nose still brimming with ‘speculoos’, clove, toasted almond, cinnamon, dried ginger, gingerbread, lots of oak furniture too of course, brandy, old chocolate cake, hints of dried blackcurrant, smoked sausages or smoky-sweet barbecue sauce, biscuit, nutmeg. Sweet onset, yet nothing sticky, deep dark fruit jam effect (elderberry, blackcurrant), softly carbonated, very full and viscous mouthfeel – creating stickiness; thick layers of toffee, fondant and molasses ensue with a pecan-nutty edge accentuated by all that sweet and aromatic speculoos spiciness, mostly clove and cinnamon, blending with a retronasal vanilla-ish effect from the oak. The wood also adds tannic aspects but only very mildly so; a lot of peppery, brandy-like alcohol heats the finish, eventually becoming a bit astringent. Different, powerful and complex, a huge beer in many respects, but tuning down the booziness a bit and perhaps even ageing it a bit longer on wood to create more oakiness and soften the speculoos spices a bit, would perhaps improve this great beer even further. One I will certainly drink again when it is sold in its definitive form.

Pours black, small tanned head fades fast. Scent is surprisingly sharp, roasty, very mild booze, notes (hidden) of coconut. Taste is medium intense, roasty, sweet, caramel, no real almonds ( macaroon) which is a relief. Coconut is very mild, but it's not chemical, which is something I sometimes get in that. Body is medium thick, carbonation is medium to medium high.

I can't put my finger on it, but I miss some 'smoothness'. It's very 'clinical' and even that sounds chemical, that's not the case here. More than decent Imperial stout for sure, i might not fully be entertained due to the expectations by it's name and it's given result though.

Can from Geers; not to be confused with the regular Sour IPA. Can was seemingly 'exploded' at the rim (small bubble), an issue that has been going on for some time now with Totem's cans (it's no fun cleaning up a Speculoos Stout...). Hazy yellow with a decent frothy white head. Aroma of gooseberry, white grape, young yellow apple, lime, mandarin, sour cream. Taste has sour mandarin, gooseberry & apple, bitterish white grape & citrus peel over sourdough maltiness, some lactic tartness too into the finish where subtle floral hops pop up, quickly dominated again by sour yellow fruits & citrus. Medium body, slick texture, fizzy carbonation - bit too much actually. Sympathetic little brew by Totem.

Can. Color: Black, thin light brown head. Aroma: Roasted malt, smoke , molasses. Taste: Roasted malt, 'molasses, lactose, smoke. Herbal and wood notes both from the used Beechwood, I presume. Tobacco, fig notes, some vanilla. Over moderate sweet, moderate to over moderate bitterness and salty hints. Smoked fish associations. Smooth and quite dense mouthfeel. Over medium to full body, below average carbonation. Alcohol is well hidden. Long lasting sticky finish. I'm not a fan of lactose but otherwise this is a nice beer.

Can from Geers - I thought this was brand-new! Cloudy black, thin and thinning beige head. Aroma of macaroons, Bounty bar, dark toffee, whipped cream, cappuccino, vanilla (ice cream), prune, oats. Taste has sweet prune & date in a thick toffee & chocolate malty profile, creamy undertone with coconut accents sprinkled on top. Very, very slightly earthy-umami, some bitter fondant in the middle too. Earthy hoppy finish, creamy, burnt coco chips somewhat, lingering chocolate candy and rather boozy brown rum-like alcohol. Full body, oily texture, soft carbonation. Sweeter than the Speculoos Stout, way more accessible than the latest Smoked Stout, this is rich and tasty, somewhat in line with BrewDog's style I'd say.
