Golden color; generous head. Light, dry hop aroma. Pretty dry, bitter, but poor character; a light soap flavor.

Rerate 2014: Tap @ DDDH, medium sample. Hazy golden color, medium white head. Aroma is a bit cheesy, bit grainy, some flowery and spicy hop, bit spicy. Bit creamy body, not as dry and crisp as the bottled version can be. Hint of sweetness. Nicely balanced, but seems to lack some complexity to make the score change. Original rate 2007: Cloudy golden color, nice thick creamy head. Spicy aroma, bit sour, cheesy. Taste is spicy, triple-like. Bit dry palate.

Cloudy amber brown color, lasting head. Spicy aroma, also bit citrus fruity. Malty taste of caramel indeed, sweet and a bit sour even. Lasting palate.

An unclear amber beer with only a slight head. It has an aroma like as if has been spontaniously fermented. The flavor is a little flat with hints of spontanious fermentation but without the sharpness - it has a round sweet flavor. A really good beer.

2024-09-24, corked bottle from The Gull, North Vancouver, L24027A, bb 01/2027, 8 months old, 7-5-8-4-15=39
It opens with a nice pop; cloudy blond colour with large, compact head. Moderate aroma of spices (coriander, pepper). Dry mouthfeel, highly carbonated, smooth; the malt base is bold, bready, could be a highlight, but it's overpowered by some quite strong Brett, adding an earthy character, and vegetable bitterness. Aggressive.
2016-11-06, corked bottle, brewed Jan 2016, bb Jan 2019, 8-4-6-3-15=36
Cloudy blond color, with a generous compact head. Nice aroma, delicate coriander and a hint of funky yeast. The flavor has some wood and sourness, a bit too much, and so the Brett and coriander character is less evident.
I wonder how it will be with a bit of age.

Golden colour, big creamy head. Sweet aroma of malt, white sugar, old hop. Dry-bitter mouth, astringent, oak cask flavour. Dry, strong palate.

Sampling of the 1998 version in 2002: Pale golden, very rich head, very lively. Blue cheese and citrus in the nose. Lively, light mouthfeel. Dry, funky and fruity. Dangerously drinkable with nice late bitterness.

Bottle. Hazy yellow. hazy yellow, huge white head. Peach, mango and citruspeel aroma, light tart. Dry mouthfeel, citrus, the fruits, yeasty funkiness, vanilla, herbs. Fairly fizzy on the onset, more pleasant if you beat some of the carbonation out. Wooden yeast dry aftertase, orangepeel retronasal.

Sparkling golden tan colour. Huge, mountainous head. Visible carbonation is soft. Aroma is yeasty, with some dust, allspice, baguette crust, and white pepper. Soft palate is fruity (apricot, asian pear), yeasty, and pale malty with an underpinning of rounded, earthy, low co-humulone bitterness. Finish is long, starting with sweet notes of middle eastern honey cake and leading into a dry, fruity (salmonberry, cloudberry) hoppiness. Like Duvel, this beer can be pedestrian from a 33cl bottle, but from larger bottles is stylish, sublime and elegant.
