Description
It all started with a humble homebrew kit and the drive to make better beer. Tired of the same bland and dated choices everywhere, Air Force friends Eric Wallace and Dick Doore set out to make the kind of beer that excited them; beer they wanted to drink. A hobby quickly became an obsession and it wasn't long before Left Hand Brewing opened for business on January 22, 1994. Left Hand has steadily increased its production, making the Brewers Association’s Top 50 Craft Brewers list in 2012.

Can from Beer Republic. Sweet dark malt with caramel, roast, lactose, chocolate, some coffee. Medium sweet, light bitter, drinks below its abv. Decent, but not the sum of its parts.

Pretty good straight across the board. Mexican hot chocolate stouts lend themselves more effectively to an imperial ABV, but this one’s not bad, with notes of bitter chocolate and cinnamon on top of a modestly sweet vanilla-tinged base. Dries out on the back end with lingering cocoa and a touch of chili on the finish. Good not great but very drinkable.

Dark chestnut brown with nice light tan head. Peppermint, chocolate malt, alcohol, and hay aroma. Moderately sweet light peppermint, chocolate malt, and mildly bitter hay flavor. Good smooth body.

Pours mostly clear yellow with a small white head. It has a mild spicy yeast aroma with a little lemon. The flavor is malty with wheat and some spicy yeast. Bland. This is underwhelming. Light bodied with low carbonation. More flavor, please. Also, as others have noted, the nitro seems pointless here and maybe even makes it worse.

Can for 2 bucks at chalet. Pour is slightly cloudy pale and has lots of active co2 happening in there. Nose of lemon furniture polish. Initially, on the first taste, there is this nano second short blast of tartness, but that immediately vanishes and then some decent lemon flavor follows. However that cute tricky little few seconds of introduction of tartness and lemon go away to leave a mastodon rude ass bitterness that comes across a little acrid an mutant annoying. Sometimes these labels on the can really annoy me because its like judging a book by its cover, just a lot of happy BS. Come on LH, you can do better than this, except for the lemon, this lacks all the civilized friendly attributes of a real old world shandy. 2.9/10 is probably more than it deserves.

Aromas are malt, hibiscus, yeast and maybe a bit of mango. Flavors are similar to nose. Bitter, sweet, slightly tart with creamy nitro mouth. Again just a hint of mango.

LCI. SBS with the single nitro. Doesn’t really gain much from the strength.
