Description
It all started with a humble homebrew kit and the drive to make better beer. Tired of the same bland and dated choices everywhere, Air Force friends Eric Wallace and Dick Doore set out to make the kind of beer that excited them; beer they wanted to drink. A hobby quickly became an obsession and it wasn't long before Left Hand Brewing opened for business on January 22, 1994. Left Hand has steadily increased its production, making the Brewers Association’s Top 50 Craft Brewers list in 2012.

Bottled. Dirty orange brown. Cinnamon aroma. Rugged malt profile, medium body, big gingersnap flavour. Medium bitterness. Liquid cake?

Tasted at the Barrelhouse Brewing Company Microbrew Fest on November 9. Cloudy yellow color with a medium white head. Pineapple and grapefruit aroma. Although this had a clean spicy/berry flavor and finish, I didn''t find it very exciting.

Tasted at the Barrelhouse Brewing Company Microbrew Fest on November 9. Nice dark gold color with a medium thick head. Decent hops aroma and flavor with a dry, biting finish. Like the other Left Hand offerings this is above average.

Not too bitter, but has a nice strong hops presence. Maple syrup colored with a medium thick off-white head. Based on recommendations from other drinkers I let it warm up a little before trying and I was glad I did. Clean flavored with citrusy aftertaste. I have enjoyed all of Left Hand's offerings so far (the Deep Cover and JuJu Ginger are good too) and look forward to the next.

Impressive beer from Left Hand, so far I have liked everything they have to offer. Sweet caramel aroma and nice malty/brown sugar flavor. I'll definitely try this one again.

Crap, I think I aliased this backwards. Either that or I scored a really, really old bottle. Lively amber colour, light but balanced palate. Kind of bland, but has a refreshing character. I know that sounds like what some people write about Coors Light, but this is a bit more than that.

I can't help but compare this with the Weisse. Well, it's not the Weisse, I'll say that. The russet colour is a little light, but the head is generous enough. Sweetish banana and sour apple flavours work together to make a light, refreshing rendition of the style, but totally lacking the chocolate or toast notes required for a dunkelweizen to really shine. The flowering, honeyish malts are lacking from the Weisse as well, and the whole thing is just lacking complexity. A good spring patio beer (if it's above freezing, we're sitting outside - a Canadian tradition).
