A very nice, easy drinking saison. They’ve found the balance here they don’t have in some of their earlier saisons. Pours hazy amber with OK head. Citrus and lots of florals with a hint of pepper. Finish is dry with some tang. Tap at meridian pint.

Rate #2500! 4 oz pour on draft at Pizzeria Paradiso Dupont. Clear straw yellow with off-white head. Aromas of wine, tannins, stone fruit. Tastes of grapefruit citrus, wine, light funk, oak. Medium-light body with a dry finish. Okay, not a huge fan.

Draft at one of the sources. Hazy golden yellow color, white edge head. Arooma of funky orange peel. Taste is lightly sour tea. Thin body. Odd.

750ml bottle pours a very murky caramel brown with some ringing head. Nose has a ton of butterscotch and booze, malt, caramel. Flavor follows, butterscotch, booze, raisin, malt, caramel, a little salty, mild leather. Oily finish.

Rich deep dark brown coloured body with a nice thick, three centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, nuts, earth, pit fruits, prunes and some deep oak - very nice. Medium to Full-bodied; Strong roasty flavour with a lot of vanilla and oak going through along with a good deal pit fruits, prunes and a little coffee notes throughout. Aftertaste shows a good oak and vanilla kick and a little alcohol warmth with brandy and dry oak on the finish. Overall, a nice and pungent beer with some good oaky characteristics, still showing a good deal of alcohol. I sampled this on draught at ChurchKey in Washington, DC on 23-February-2015.

On draft at Mad Fox Barleywine Festival 2015. Pours a hazy bronze with a ecru head. Sweet caramel aroma. Alcohol come through right from the beginning. Sweet and boozy.

Slightly hazy ruby-tinted copper and bronze coloured body with a thinnish, single centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of yeast, grass, hay, wort, light alcohol and a fruity sweetness - like apples and pears, all with a good pepper note. Medium-bodied; Strong grassy and herbal note throughout with a solid dry character and a herbal finish with a touch of pepper and sugars, all with some alcohol burn on the tail end. Aftertaste shows a rich dry and oaky characteristic with some more deep assertive notes at the end with the yeast coming out the strongest. Overall, a nice saison with a very dry quality and a bit of light sugars to coax out the pepper notes. I sampled this 75 cL bottle purchased from Whole Foods in Washington (P Street, Logan Circle), DC on 05-January-2015 for US$8,99 sampled at home in Washington on 19-February-2015.
