Nice-looking dark brown body with big and creamy tan head. Musty and yeasty aroma with notes of spice and malt. Flavor is alcoholic, but not enough to overshadow tastes of of fruits — plum and banana — and spice. Medium to long finish and a pleasant enough mouthfeel if not slightly overcarbonated.

0.33l bottle, Westmalle Trappist glass, at Tolkien’s House, Zagreb The bartender claimed that this was the best beer he ever had, and the scores here would pretty much confirm it, best Trappist Dubbel. And I agree (not the best beer ever part, the best Abbey Dubbel one), but I’ll come to that later. It poured a very nice very-dark-nearly-black colour. Small thick tan head that went away at a medium pace. The nose... is a damn void, and a huge disappointment. It wasn’t even too cold. And it didn’t show up as it warmed. Surprising, seeing the big marks in that department in the other reviews. Ah, well. Only some faint acidity/deep malt here. The taste is very pleasant. Not really typical, though (not that sweet). A bit mild, but lovely maltiness, countered by the pleasant Belgian-style acidity, some yeast, weak fruitiness. Weak but pleasant chewy hopiness that goes into the aftertaste. A great quaffer, no doubt about it. I’ll try another, just to see if I was wrong about the aroma.
