0.33l bottle, Westmalle trappist glass at Tolkien’s House, Zagreb Finally got to try this one. I love Tripel’s, and you can’t go wrong with the first one, right ? We’ll see about that. It poured a dark golden colour with a medium sized thick white head that went away slowly. Very lively carbonacion, scant lacing. The nose was interesting. White grapes/white wine, acidic in a nice way, some slight fruit (figs?) and a tiny hint of alcohol. Very interesting. Taste...hmm... it struck me as a totally atypical tripel, which is odd considering that it’s the original... Again, a white wine like taste, only more "noble" than any I’ve ever tasted. Bloody great underlying fruity maltiness, that, unfortunately, doesn’t show up much. Some alcohol (though I never thought it was really that evident). Some chewy hopiness in the late taste, which I didn’t exactly love (it was ok), that goes into the aftertaste and sticks in going from a grape seeds taste to a herbal one clinging to the back of the mouth and mixing with the subdued lemon acidity that shows up around the same time. Interesting stuff, slightly atypical, but good.

Bottled. A golden beer with a huge white head. Yeast, fruit, candisugar, alcohol and cellar aromas. Flavor has candi-sweetness, apples, dried fruits and maybe too much alcohol. A lovely beer. Rating: 7-4-8-4-17-4.0. 060228

Bottle. It pours a hazy, sparkling, orange-golden body with some sediments, and a huge, dense, egg-white head sitting on top. Very slowly dimininishing, and leaving nice lacings. Citrus, banana and tropical juice in the aroma, along with a pleasant alcohol touch, a faint spice note and some pale malts. The hops also shines throug in a sort of peppery way. It’s full-bodied and effervescent, slightly warming down the throat, and with a fine bitterness. There’s flavors of fresh fruits, lemon peel, pale malts and spices. Some cellar and yeast notes too. Very well balanced, even though the alcohol might be a bit more evident than I prefer. It kinda suits the beer though. Lasting warm finish with fruits, pale malts and bitterness. A dry, crisp and tasteful tripel, but a bit too warming. 090827

Bottle says best before 10/07/06. Poured into a trappist glass. Nice solid head quickly disspates with no lacing. Thick toasty caramel. Shows a beautiful red when held to the light. Lightly sweet with a slight sour taste. Quite fizzy with an abrupt finish.
