The Westmalle brewery is closed to visitors. It is situated within the abbey walls where a quiet, peaceful atmosphere is essential to the secluded life of the monks. Our website provides information about and images of our brewery.
Café Trappisten, opposite the abbey, shows a video of the brewery free of charge, in three languages: Dutch, French and English. Please make a reservation by calling +32(0)3 312 05 02 or email info@trappisten.be. The café also regularly hosts events linked to the abbey.

Flesje gekocht bij Mitra. Bleek geel, helder bier met een dunne witte schuimkraag. Aroma is moutig. Smaak is moutig en waterig. Nasmaak is bitter.

Schönes Fläschchen, heftige Carbo erzeugt derben Schaum, toll anzusehen. In der Nase recht unscheinbar, hefig. Im Trunk Getreide, leicht zitronig, feinbitter, passt.

330 ml bottle, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 4.8%. Pale golden colour, vigorously carbonated, large white head. Pleasant aroma of Trappist yeast, yellow fruits and mild spices. Fizzy mouthfeel. The flavour has the same elements as the aroma, with surprisingly distinct bittering hops in the aftertaste.

Sampled at Max's Belgian Fest 2022, pours a muddy brown, no head. Raisin and prune nose, candy, malt. Flavor is malt, raisins, prune, fig, candy. I've had better expressions of this beer. The tap treatment didn't do it justice, but alas, that is the version I'm rating. Flabby finish.

Bottle at Huis, Southsea, served in the correct glass. Yellowy-gold with a white head, a thin body, and an aggressive prickly fizz. Tastes of light lemon, a little white pepper, and a mild bitterness. It is - dare I say this of a Trappist ale - a little bland. And the fizz is too strong. I'm not a fan of this one.

Bottle at home in Hackney - picked up from Beautiful Beers. After 14 or so years on RB, finally rating this! Pours clear brown with a frothy beige topping. Medium sweet flavour with nicely rounded dark and semi-dark fruits, a little toffee, grape, raisin, yeast, bread, fruitcake. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Sweet but nicely balanced finish, toasted malts, more dark fruits, brown sugar, mild bitterness. Very tasty and mighty drinkable.
