From a 12 oz. can. Pours a hazy pale gold with an enormous white head. Floral aromas. Mild sweet flavors with plenty of herbal notes. Smooth and crisp finish.

355ml can. Pours a slightly hazy orange with a medium, frothy, long lasting, off-white head that leaves curtains of lace. Sweet aroma of caramel malt, bread, apricot and grapefruit. Sweet flavour of caramel malt, orange peel, grapefruit, apricot, peach and pine resin with a dry, bitter hop finish. Medium body with an oily texture and soft carbonation. Ok.

Malty and dry.

Porter by Caldera with toasted coconut chips and chocolate. Creamy, pale yellowish beige, lightly lacing, medium thick head, deep ruddy bronze-brown colour, blackish but still completely translucent, with a warm coppery tinge. Aroma indeed reveals some toasted coconut - though not quite as much as I was expecting or hoping for (I love it), embedded in impressions of hazelnut shells, black bitter chocolate, dried figs, 'natural' haemoglobin-like iron, liquorice candy, vanilla beans, tea, dried apple peel. Sweet onset, candied date, immediately countered by a sourish undercurrent, softish carbo, smooth oily mouthfeel, slick but a tad thinnish for a 6+% ABV beer perhaps. Hazelnutty and peanutty malt bittersweet body with thin metallic edges, thin layer of bittering black chocolate towards the end, toasted coconut effect again noticeable but relatively subtle - even more so than in the nose, herbal tea-ish hop bitter accent, coffeeish roasted bitter touch all the way at the back. Decent like all Calderas - but also like other Calderas, this could have been a bit more expressive and outspoken for me, especially the coconut element.

22 oz bottle. Dark mahogany body that throws up a fluffy, off-white head. The aroma is smoke and toffee malt. The flavor is sweet with light smoke. This needs a deeper more rounded maltiness that is a bit less sweet and with a bit more smoke for my tastes.

Clear dark reddish brown beer, big creamy beige head, pretty stable, adhesive, leaving a nice lacing in the glass. Aroma: soft roast, some chocolate, quite some coffee. MF: soft carbon, medium body. Taste: bit sourish start, lots of coconut at start, pretty bitter, some dried fruits, bit infected? Acidic touch. Aftertaste: vanilla notes, bit sweet, coconut touch, some cherries caramel. Decent stuff, but not sure if the acidity is intended.

[ As Caldera Mogli - Bourbon Barrel Aged ].Clear dark red brown colour with a average to large, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, beige head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, dark malt, chocolate, bourbon, wood. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and moderate bitter with a long duration, chocolate, vanilla - bourbon, sweet malt, dark malt. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. Draft @ PDX Taproom, Shibuya; Caldera’s 20th Anniversary lineup. Pours lighter amber, a finger of white foam on top. Aroma is malty-caramel, fresh-citric at the same time. Getting only little grapefruit, not very pronounced. Body relatively strong, citric hops and some grapefruit peels in taste. Aftertaste somewhat grainy dry, some relatively measured lingering bitterness. Not bad.

Draft @ PDX Taproom, Shibuya; Caldera’s 20th Anniversary lineup. Pours relatively dark orange, almost copper actually. Little bit of foam there. Aroma is sweetish, kind of like a hoppy barley-wine. This one has very sturdy body, getting some citric hops there, sweet tropical fruits. Bitterness is also quite strong, trying to balance this sweet sturdy body, doing a good effort but still overall drinks a bit heavy, liquor-like. Quite barleywine’ish actually.
