22 oz. bottle, pours a dark amber with a small white head. Aroma brings out smoked meat, lager yeast and caramel. Flavour is very similar - the smoke isn't overburdening, but is certainly front and centre, with smoked meat, caramel, and lager yeast. Very well-balanced, with a finish of light smoke and caramel. Solid smoked beer.

Bitter pale ale, with a body of soft malt and some notes of acidic fruit. Just good, nothing more.

Can from ABC Beers, Den Haag. Poured a clear light amber with a frothy white head and lots of gas. The aroma is pine needle, grassy hop. The flavour is medium bitter with a citrus hop bitter, light spice palate and a long bitter finish. Medium bodied with lively carbonation.

12 oz can @ home on Independence Day. Clear amber color. Frothy white head. Aroma’s: malts, some fruit, also something vegetal. More (dark) malts retronasal, sweet fruit, a bit hay/grass. Flavor is rather bitter with light maltiness. Light bodied. Finishes firmly bitter and dry. Nice on this hot day, but not entirely balanced.

Clear amber with medium sized off-white head. Malty at first, with some biscuits and a touch of nuts, honey and caramel. Then some nice fruitiness, pine and flowers. Not super aromatic, but some nice berries and grapefruit in juice or even dried form. Also some apple. Medium bodied. Decent stuff.

Copper colour with light haze and dense head. The aroma is strong with plenty of tropical fruits. By comparison the flavour is a little muted. Caramel, resin, bittersweet.

What can you say? A truly superlative beer. Chocolate comes right up front in both aroma and taste, slight tingle of alcohol warmth at the finish. Sweet and smooth, chocolate lingers on the tongue. This is one to savor.
