2009 bottle #477 shared at Ft Wayne tasting last fall - Pours black with a dark tan head. It smells of roast malt and chocolate. This thick, intense brew tastes of roasted malt and chocolate with ample hops bitterness. Itโ€™s very good though not a great imperial stout.

Canโ€™t remember who sent this one to me, but thanks! Poured a deep hazy brown with a brown head that dissipated to the edges. Aroma had a smoke note as well as sweet chocolate, toffee and roasted malts. Flavor was a combination of sweet chocolate, roasted malt, peat and a bit of smoke.

2009 top o the line bottle (#369) from cakanator. Pours quite black with a foamy creme coffee head. Aroma is a nose stopper of coffee and really smooth burn malt - with a touch of milk chocolate. Med+ body with really smooth carbonation. Flavor is strong. Burnt smooth malt/something lightly coffee sour/maybe a hint of milk chocolate, and -donโ€™t take this poorly- old fashioned linoleum paste. Grabs the rear of the mouth. With time it makes me think of ginger cookies. Reasonably complex. Drinks very well.

Slightly hazy burnt copper and brownish body with a very thin tan head that fades very fast - almost no head/carbonation at all. Very nutty, earthy, caramel and a slight hoppiness, but a very strong scent - nice. Medium-bodied; Flat taste, almost no carbonation; Strong nutty and caramel flavours dominate with a light hoppy touch of pine and herbs and a mellow earthiness at the end. Aftertaste shows some burnt caramel and a little hop bitterness. Overall, an okay beer, but the lack of carbonation and sheer complexity make this hard to say itโ€™s a good beer. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Colonial Spirits in Acton, Massachusetts on 23-September-2010, sampled at home in Washington on 11-October-2010.

Nice slightly hazy amber coloured body with a copper glow and a non-existant head. Aroma of fresh hops, light malt and a touch of sweetness from apricots. Medium-bodied; Viscous taste with NO carbonation at all, a very still mouthful and a fresh hoppy flavour at first with some grassy notes and a dose of malt. Aftertaste shows some fresh hop bitterness and a touch of the sweetness, but mostly dry and non-carbonated malt. Overall, a decent IPA - showing the hops as expected, but the complexity doesnโ€™t exist and the lack of carbonation is definitely noticeable in a bad way. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased earlier today at Colonial Spirits in Acton, Massachusetts sampled on 23-September-2010 at a hotel in Boston, Massachusetts.
