Sampler at brewpub. Clear ruby brown color, lasting lacing. Aroma is moderately roasted, an enticing light caramel scorched aroma. Amazingly clean, lager clean after that. Flavor is also very clean and centering my tastes buds on a similar but lighter roast/scorched aspect. A great lightly sweet caramel complete from malts and not under attenuated sugars. A nice lightly bitter aftertaste. A lightly prickly carbonation tickles the tongue as a medium-light body coats a bit. A really superb brown on the scorched, low hop end of the spectrum.

Draft at brewpub. Dark red color with a nice lacing. Aroma is thick caramel fruit hops. Some bark-like malts. Flavor is bitter heavy with fruit bark at the end. Reduced carbonation. Nice hop and caramel strong ale. I usually hate caramel and bitter hops but this is the only acceptable version of that sort of beer. Its fruit hops, not to bitter and only lightly caramel.

Large wide mouth footed pilsner glass is the closest I could use to describe this glass. Super black color with brown head, great thick lacing as the head slowly fades. Aroma is as advertised, lots of well done dark malts chocolate, coffee, dark cocoa but not bitter black malt. Love the classic rich porter aroma. Reminds me of overpriced Italian chocolate candy you could buy just a block away at eataly. Might mouthfeel is medium with medium carb. Goes well to lighten but not too much the flavor. Flavor is very easy and light wuth most of that dark malt flavor coming at the end of the flavor. Super light hops nor present, thank you. I mean you can’t get a better brewpub porter.

What more can someone ask from a Scotch Ale. Aroma is earthy leafy caramel. Flavor is nicely lean with much less caramel and a clean earthy flavor. Mildly carbed with a medium body. Nice for the style.

Flute goblet at the brewpub. Clear slick golden color. Aroma is sweet candy sugar, sweet and thick just like the traditional American tripel. A bit if a vegetal honey character that forms from cloying tripels. Flavor is less cloying helped out bt a nice carbonation. Thus none of that vegetal honey character. Thicker mouthful. Potent stuff. I am fine with sweeter tripels, so I can do this.

Imperial nonic pint at the brewpub. This was the beer of the day. Comes to me very cloudy with a super golden amber color with a frothy head that leaves a medium thick lacing as it fades. Its a nice looking beer, I am guessing purposefully cloudy and that looks cool. The aroma is very neutral on the yeast and malts but surprisingly its pretty mild on the hops as well. In conflict with the beer’s description the hops are not bright and actually pretty muted. I get some light bitter grass. Flavor is very much the same, its like a dead fish of a beer. Mild and generic American hop flavor, no bitterness, no esters, no malt character. On the plus side, I do like the mouthfeel of the beer, thicker and softer yet has a sprinkley finish. This had the makes of a great little session hop beer but the hops never came through in the end.

Poured into a footed pilsner flute at the brewpub. Served a bit cold, I needed to let it warm up. Color is murky, mucky, dirty brown with some head, which fades and leaves a medium sized lacing on the side of the glass. This beer goes in line with the other barrel aged beers I have been drinking at this location, in a nutshell: more infected that intentionally sour. Maybe I am splitting hairs but when I drink this I don’t get craftsmanship but lack of skill. Strong alcoholic fruitiness peaks through dry wood leaves and infected tang, twang, and musk on the nose. I probably would have loved this 7 years ago but now I view it as shoddy workmanship. Flavor is slightly better with cleaner more disparate elements but still a "lets fill a barrel and see what happens" sort of deal. The twang comes in the aftertaste and its cleaner and leaner (the saving grace of the flavor). I will try a few more barrel aged brews from this RB location but I am 0/3 at the moment and have little patience left.
