Sampled from the tap at FOBAB 2012. Pours near black with a dark brown head that dissipates tot the edges. Aroma has a good amount of roasted malts with a strong espresso note that over powers the backing maple and bacon. Flavor has intense coffee that doesn’t let the slightly smokey bacon or maple to come out.

Found my notes from June and decided to just rate this here. Although this is listed only as "Dry-hopped with Chinook" instead of Cascade, they server had no more information than that. Maybe it’s the corporate Pale Ale with dry-hopping added. Either way, it pours quite cloudy, like the slightly dimmer cousin to a hefeweizen. Thin layer of foam announced its APA background. Overwhelming smell of Pacific area hops in case you doubted the claim. Lemon cream pie and a resiny pine branch, This was a cask pour, so it’s a little warm and flat, which seems to tame its hoppiness. Slight note of alcohol. Malt is pretty laid back, to keep the hops centered, For the big hoppy nose it packs, it’s quite an easy going drink.

Draft at RBC. Deep brown in my Mug Club mug. Head kind of look like dishwater suds. Nice toffee in the nose with a hint of grain. Taste is bright and pretty bubbly. May be a little to gassy to be a true session ale, but I am not complaining. More malt and toffee-covered nuts as I drink further along. Would be nice with dinner.

Taster at RBY. Funny name for this entry, but I was assured that yes, the is a NON-Barrel Aged, non coffee or chili infused version, and someone already entered this beer in the RBDB, so here goes: Inky blackness, with a slight brown at the corners. Again, not barrel-aged, but I still have a nose full of brandy smell and vanilla. No harshness as with some big stouts. Taste is just right for the big beer palate: Creamy mouthfeel, like a the best bits of a porter, leaving out the roastiness. Still a pretty fizzy alcohol delivery system. And sumptuous. After writing these notes, I set aside my taster so I can finish the other samples first.

Taster at RBC. Bright brass color in the tiny glass. A thin meringue of foam. Insubstantial ale smell common to Blonde Ales. Taste does offer some honey sweetness if you roll it on your tongue. Very little ester or hop to compete against the sweetness. But a clean finish.

1st rater. It was cool to catch this on a short trip to Chi-town. Drank it side by side with the Bourbon version of the base beer. Color is dark brown. In general this is a a dry light impy stout with a roasted aroma dominating. It was rather light on the flavor (I mean its a brown Imperial Stout). As a good medium, not heavy body. Would have guest an impy brown. The pepper was felt lightly at the very end of the flavor. No more chocolate than normal as far as I could tell. Balanced and subtle.
