(Bottle 50 cl) Pale ales are common in Belgium but I believe rather rare elsewhere. Pilsener golden with a small head. Comes with the vinous character of the other Usher vintage beers, but completely lacks the juicy fullness from the darker malts. A bit like a dry sherry. Almost no bitterness. Very unusual if not to say unique. 260603

(Bottle 66 cl) 4.7% ABV in my version. Very pretty, clear amber with a nice, solid beige head. Very soft and smooth ale, with some slightly citric notes and a weak bitterness. Some fruit, some caramel - all very standard, but OK. 050603

(Bottle 50 cl) Dark brown, close to black, with a reddish hue and a small, brownish head. Dark, malty roasted notes with a solid dose of bitterness. Presumably brewed with some oats. Not the most impressive stout. 100405

Bottled. Amber coloured, big beige foamy head. Aroma is fruitish hoppy. Typical bitter, strong hopped flavour with some hints off fruits. Hoppy finish with some weak hints of fruits in aftertaste. A bit paperish in the finish too. Nothing that special...

Bottled (BB 03/2006)
Dark copper brown color, decent tan head. Woody, caramelly hoppy nose. Oaky hoppy and toffeeish flavor. Long hoppy bitter aftertaste.

Hazy dark amber colour. Caramelly malts in the aroma - fairly rich with light pear esters. Malty body. Not thin, which is amazing for a Wychwood beer. Lots of pear, marmalade and cranberry esters. The malts are heavy and plodding, not good for a malt-accented brew. The yeast is really sludgey-tasting, too. This beer drags across the palate like Fred Flintstone driving a logging truck in the mud with a rippin’ hangover. The finish gets a touch of dryness from a shot of peppery alcohol. I understand the benefit of having a bit of booziness in a winter warmer, but against such a dull backdrop it really comes off poorly. The fact that they used the brightest malt - Maris Otter - to make this beer blows my mind.

Cask handpull at County Hotel, JDW, Ashford. OK so I know I said that never again would I have a Wychwood beer, but I had already ordered it before I realised. Russet with thin beige head. Sweet fruit aroma. Sweetish in mouth with some dry hop on end. Some boiled sweet flavour. Fine, but no real interest and too sweet

(Bottle 50 cl) Beautiful, fully golden beer with a limited head. Slightly unusual mixture of barley and wheat malts. Very soft and extremely aromatic with delicious malty, caramelish flavours. Discreetly hoppy finish witout much bitterness. 061001

(Bottle 50 cl) Amber coloured with a beige head. Caramel in both aroma and flavour and some slightly sweet, perfumy notes. Lovely, nutty ale. 020101
