Description
In 1858 Timothy Taylor began brewing beer in Cook Lane in the West Riding town of Keighley. He clearly struck upon a successful formula for in 1863 he set up and built a larger brewery at Knowle Spring, where the company has remained ever since.

The superb spring water that wells up from deep under the Pennines is still used today to produce the country's best traditional cask ales.

The brewery remains in the Taylor family and is now the last independent brewery of its type left in West Yorkshire. This independence enables Taylors to survive as one of the few brewers still brewing true cask ales in the same way it has always done."Taylor's Taste" is achieved by using only the finest natural ingredients, taking pride in the brewing process and allowing full time for the ales to ferment and mature, thereby creating a unique family of beers.

We have come a long way since 1858. Our beers have won many awards and worldwide acclaim. This is seen within our product range.

Cask at GBBF 08. Very dark black with ruby hints. Thin dark beige head. OK, firstly it’s too cold. But it is a mild. It’s fine. Drinkable, not overly roasted. As a knock down drink with some flavour it’s perfect.

Draught. Hazy yellow amber with little head. Aroma of malt, flowery hops and fruit. Light to medium body, very little carbonation. The flavour is a beautiful balance of malt, hoppy bitterness and fruit (passion fruit?). Does beer get better than this?

[1st rating, cask at the Spade Oak, Bourne End. RB score 6/3/5/2/10 (2.6] Fairly pale for a traditional bitter, with a moderate lasting white head. Intensely, almost unpleasantly bitter on the first taste; this does mellow with time to reveal dusty straw and citrus hops. Very clean and crisp-tasting for a bitter, but a little too bitter for my palatte I’m afraid. I can see why people like this, but for me there’s some much nicer examples of the genre around - Goffs White Knight, Adnams East Green Carbon Neutral and Hidden Pint spring to mind. [2nd rating, cask at the Saracen’s Head, Beaconsfield. RB score 5/3/6/3/11 (2.8)]. Score entered is an average of all rates.

Bottle. Creamy butterscotch malt aroma - very nice. Clear amber with moderate head. Creamy butterscotch malt and dry hoppy flavor. Light bitter aftertaste that lasts long after swallowing. Moderate carbonation. Really didn’t expect much but this was a very nice surprise. A very nice bitter - strong diacetyl and bold hops.

Cask, 7 stars, Thornton Hough. My first UK outdoor pint of 2008! Dark amber colour with a medium lingering white head. Some lacing. Dense hoppy aroma, flavour is more of the same with a nice grassy undercurrent and a tasty bitter finish.
