Associated Venue: Proeflokaal La Trappe
Established in 1884
Within the abbey walls, Brewery de Koningshoeven produces Dutch Trappist ale. Still under the supervision and responsibility of the monks and still based on the inner conviction "to do good": part of the proceeds go to charities. These original principles provide La Trappe Trappist with the exclusive label "Authentic Trappist Product" from the International Trappist Association.
Between 1969 and 1980 the beers were produced under license by Artois (InBev). By 1999 the monastery had become a subsidery of Bavaria - Netherlands this resulted in La Trappe beers no longer displaying the Authentic Trappist Product label. In 2005 an agreement was reached by which the monks would take a more active part in the brewery operation and so the label was restored.

75cl Fles van Nettorama. Helder goud-amber kleur, witte kraag. Fruitig, esters, wat alcohol, licht kruidig, rogge, mooi bitter, hint van steenvruchten maar niet zoet, iets grassig / groen. Lichte tot medium body. Geen probleem met een hele fles.

330mL bottle. Pours clear blonde with a white head. Estery Belgian yeast, some bubblegum, floral grass, and bright sugars on the nose. Flavour has very pleasant Belgian yeast expression, floral with bubblegum esters, white bread malts, caramel. Pretty good level of sweetness, could maybe be a bit drier. Carbonation is solid. Not one of the best tripels, but still very good.

37.5 cl bottle. Pours dark brown with nonlasting head. Aroma is deep wooden and wineous fruity. Smoked. Peated. Dry and lingering peated far finish.
Bottle. Reminds me of a blend between Weizen and Belgian Blond, non-alcoholic. Banana, spiced notes, grains and bready malts, honey hints and something floral and generically fruity. Touching into the wort territoty too. Far from the worst NA beer I've had, but I don't see a reason to repeat it either. 44437 260312
