Rip Current Off the Lip IPA 6.6% Great big juicy citrus aroma on a medium bodied golden brew with a pillowy light beige head. He taste is sweet citrus then pithy waxy bitterness. It’s very drinkable.

I had this after work on Saturday evening. Rip Current Choppy Surf Czech-style Pilsner 5.3% I drank it out of a Pilsner glass where it poured with a big soapy white head on top of a very pale straw gold. The aroma is bready with herbal hops. Medium bodied with a sandpaper like prickly carbonation and a dry finish. I prefer something softer. The beer is quite bitter but nice, a definite six-pack type brew.

I don’t drink coffee but I do enjoy coffee beers, the only thing is I need to drink them early so as to avoid the caffeine keeping me up 😉 First of today’s beers is: Rip Current Java Storm Coffee Imperial Stout 10% The ABV listed on the Can took me by surprise as that makes this a pretty big beer! The beer is pitch black with a light tan head and a cocoa and dark berries coffee aroma. The taste gives you coffee, berries, cacao paste while the body is full and smooth. It was a bit rough at first but really improved as it warmed up. Having this again in 2021 (brewed in 2020), this beer is smoother than I recall with a smooth milk coffee flavor and it hides the ABV unbelievably well. Boosting it from 3.7 to 3.9

Rip Current Bodysurfing Belgian style blonde ale 7% A higher ABV than I anticipated when I saw blonde on the can. It’s a deep yellow with a dense creamy white head of foam. Bready aroma with stone fruits (plum & apricot), it’s got a full body and sharp dry finish. The taste is pluots with a bit of wine like sweet Belgian Ale notes though I find it overly carbonic. Ok.

Can from Beer Cats fukubukuro. Pours slightly cloudy, deeper orange with some relatively off-white thick foam, half rocky, half thin-bubbled. Nose is tropical, some citrus, resins and papaya, green apple. Tastes medium bodied, good fruity bitterness, feels light and relatively dry. Easy to drink, clean and simple IPA but satisfies your hop tooth.

Can from Beer Cats fukubukuro. Pours clear dark gold, some foam but not for long. Nose has a bit of Belgian yeast spices, hint of alcohol and candy sweetness. Tastes has pretty much the same, Belgian character is relatively subtle, clean and not too much character there. Simple and drinkable but not overly exciting.

375 mL bottle poured, enjoyed at Rip Current. Beautiful bottle. Cloudy golden orange. Tart lemon, orange fruit, citrus aroma. Taste is a sharp, sour peach, body is thick later as it lingers. A touch warming with this sour. Stronger than expected. Remains smooth. Very nice

Draft pour enjoyed at Rip Current, San Diego. Enjoyed side by side with the hazy version. Very clean, bright, shiny golden pour. Quick fading head. Hot in the IPA category. Bold bitterness. Sharp taste. Earthy malt and hop linger, and a heavy finish. Boozy for an IPA. Hot finish. Not bad, but a bit harsh.

Todd, mild fresh hops but the beer itself seems kind of off. Besides the fresh hops in the Romans there is wet paper and rotten fruit. Flavors are like nose, bittersweet and oxidized.
