Description

Bottle from Asao. 6% a clear straw gold with a heavy head of light foam. A nice fruity, spicy buckwheat aroma which reminds me of Coup de Grisou. The taste is fruity, peaches, pears, plums, some spices & a touch of tartness in the finish. Delicious stuff.

24/VIII/13 - 33cl bottle @ Bierweekend Lambiekstoempers (Alsemberg) - BB: n/a (2013-796) Thanks to T. for sharing today's beers!

Clear dark orange to pale amber beer, what's so "Bruin" about this one? Creamy off-white to yellow head, very stable, bit adhesive. Aroma: very soapy, floral, orange peel, bit of caramel. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: spicy, some honey, brown sugar, bit soapy, citrus. Aftertaste: some caramel, metallic, citrus and soapy. Very mediocre, and I'm really being kind here.

Bottle @ home. Clear yellow-golden color, small to medium sized quite quickly diminishing white head that leaves fair lacing. Smell malts, grainy. Taste malts, grains, lightly bitter. Typical average pilsener.

Pale blond, a bit white foam. Medium carbonation. Sweet and malty, dry bitter finish. Quite like all the other boring lagers.

25 cl. bottle @ home. BBF date is smudged / unreadable. Pours a clear amber orange, head is oddly almost instantly gone, white but only very brief within 1 min. zero bubbles, actually looks a bit like a lambic or something odd. Sweet pale lager aroma, very homogenous, lightly fruity, corn, light honey,… Taste is odd pale lager hay, corn, sweet cornflakes, metallic, artificial honey, fake white sugar fare, light basement and chunk of dust, more sweet, lightly oddly bitter finish, touch other grains,… Little carbonation, fake honey, lightly sticky body,… Actually this is better than it sounds, it is like a slightly better pale lager, in that category there is a lot worse stuff,… Actually expected worse,… The rating seems a bit unfair because it clearly promises a lager on the label and you know what that means in Belgium. Maybe this stuff is better now than it used to be, other ratings are all from 2011 & one from 2010.

Slightly cloudy pink coloured body with a bit of a copper glow and a thin, fast-dying tan head with definite pink tints. Aroma of strawberries, raspberries, sour notes, yeast and a bit of alcohol and grass coming up as well. Medium-bodied; Strong saccharin and aspartame flavours with a definite fruity note and a even more pungent grassy and herbal kick. Aftertaste shows a lot of sugars, a ton of fruit and even more pungent and not-too-pleasing tastes. Overall, not a horrible beer, but not one that I’d get again, even if it were an option! I sampled this 25 cL bottle purchased from Beer Mania in Bruxelles, Belgium on 30-June-2012 for €2,25 (date on red cap of 02-08-2012, lot 1 on side of bottle) sampled at home on the other side of the Atlantic in Washington on 03-January-2013.
