Had a chance encounter with the brewer a short while ago, so thought I should drink his beer again. It just made me think again about De Koninck and that is a rather nice example in the Speciale Belge genre.
It has quite a beautiful, clear amber colour, fluffy thought small head. Aroma of caramel and sweet malts. Some slight banana. Flavour of malts, sweet but not too sweet, rather dry, balanced notes of hops. Very balanced beer, could’ve been a bit more hoppy for my liking but that just wouldn’t fit the genre.

bottle@’t Waagstuk: clear golden yellow with a small white head, bit too heavy on the spices with a strong presence of yeast, especially in the nose, tastes heavy of barnyard yeast, fruits; touch citric, medium body, touch above medium carbonation, not a big fan of this one

Bottle @ Home. Pours dark reddish brown with a huge white head. Aroma of caramel, nuts and fruity hops. Taste is malt, caramel, fruit like apples and pears. Medium body, soft carbonation, creamy mouthfeel. 090511

Aroma: The aroma is rather sweet consisting mostly of caramel malts and fruity notes
Appearance: A cloudy reddish rust looking color with a lasting, frothy beige head and lots of lacing
Flavor: This one tastes medium sweet, fruity, with some malts, yeast, and spice notes to it
Palate: The mouthfeel is rather tingly with a medium body, and rather fizzy carbonation
Overall Impression: There is something a bit muddled about this one. It isn't bad, but maybe overly simplistic in addition to being muddled. I would describe this one as a slight miss. Not completely off or anything, but between the slightly muddled flavor, the one-dimensionalness, and the overly fizzy/airy mouthfeel, I just thought it could have been better.

Amer with a small white head. Aroma of caramel and toffee with a hint of hops. Dry caramel malty flavour with a bit of hop flavour and medium bitterness

33cl bottle.Amber-brown ale with beautiful head. Lemon and yoghurt nose. The taste seems to be completely yeast-dominated, with more of the lemon and yoghurt. The palate has a fresh start, a really creamy texture and a long drying finish. Overall, I’m not sure about this one - more interesting than good1!

Chevy Chase Liquors, DC 11.2oz ($2.69): The best thing about this might be the pour. Really nice red body with a quickly dissipating white head. Aroma is very mildly fruity and has that cheap metallic (?) smell ( I know metallic is a taste, but...) Body is a weak point: it is too watery. Feels like they took a Belgian Ale and then made the light version of it. Slight sweetness and slight bitterness, but really not much there. I could easily drink ten of these. So even though it sounds like I am talking smack, this is a drinkable ale and not offensive either.
