Description
Looking for the real taste of Antwerp? Since 1833, there has been just one address: our Antwerp City Brewery. Because when people get together in Antwerp, they do so more often than not with a Bolleke Koninck in their hand. And that’s how De Koninck has become synonymous with Antwerp –and vice-versa. Every day, we work hard to uphold this proud tradition while also experimenting on ways to perfect and reinvent the taste of Antwerp.

Draught, Everyman Bistro, Liverpool. Seem to recall quite enjoying this over the years and this was one of the first Belgians that I returned to. Not quite sure how it stands up now though on the evidence of my most recent taste. It just seemed a bit pedestrian and lacklustre. Wouldnt mind trying in Antwerp to see if its any improvement....

Bottled(750ml). -from Belgian Beers, Antwerpen. Bottle No. 1541
Opened with loud pop, pourd huge off-white head that went away slowly. Clear amber coloured, malty, light spicy peppery nose. Few streams of carbonation. Malty, fruity, light spicy and somehow watery. Also light alcoholic notes in the finish. All in all, I’m not really satisfied with this beer.

0.75l bottle courtesy of and shared with ogivlado who got it in Antwerpen. Poured an enormous off beige head that almost completely covered the lovely dark amber/red body for a while. Heavy malty nose, with some chalky spice. Bready. The taste is lighter than expected. A light, but very nice silky maltiness that ends wine-like before revealing some slightly warming alcohol. The taste continually shifted between the appealing malts and the unappealing alcohol and that kinda ruined it for me. Shows potential.

Bottled(300ml). -Clear amber coloured, medium sized white head, dusty malty nose. Malty, weak hoppy, spicy and mild fruity taste with notes of yeast and caramel, but overal quite thin beer. The worst of 5 beers I’ve tried in Zotte, Amsterdam.
