[Cask at the Hope Tap (JDW), Reading.] A ruby red pour with a tight beige head; grainy aroma with some berry fruit; grainy body with a fresh blackberry taste and; then a dry malty finish with a trace of treacle. A solid pint.

Can from LCB, consumed 1 month past BBE. Clear pale gold with white head, decent lacing. Aroma of pale malt, peach, light citrus. Taste and mouthfeel is very poor - sweet, artificial fruit flavouring, cloying, cardboard, bitter shandy. Crap.

Can from Beer52 at 4.1%. Clear pale yellow with thin white covering. A fairly standard pilsner malt aroma but with a punchy lemon and slight honeyed note. Taste follows nose; its clean, moderately crisp and very light with the flavour not hanging around too long. Pleasant, sessionable and easy drinking though.

Bottle from Waitrose, Solihull. Pours a cloudy dark amber with small off white head, nice retention. Aroma of hay, bread, light spice, minerals. Not your standard best bitter aroma. Taste has berry fruitiness which was not apparent in the aroma but also bready malts, toast, minerals, nuts and grassy hops. Good light to medium body for a 4% bitter. A very good session ale and a slightly different take on a bitter which can only be a good thing. Clearly a good batch of this beer has made its way to Waitrose.

330ml can. Clear gold, small white head, no retention. Aroma of biscuity malts, orange, citrus zest. Taste is alike with it being malty and citrus noted with a zesty bitterness in the finish. Light to moderate body, slight resin. Its fine but a bit basic.

330ml can. Light cloudy straw coloured beer, with moderate white loose head but some retention. Aroma of pale malts and an old tin of pineapple chunks; not exactly fresh in the aroma but there is a nice fruitiness to it. Taste is pineapple chunks, citrus, light malts. Medium bodied, slightly syrupy in note. Its ok.

Bottle thanks to allmyvinyl. Appearance - deep amber to brown, fluffy off-white head. Nose - toffee, brown bread and going into malt loaf. Taste - chewy toffee and caramel, more malt loaf. Palate - medium bodied, creamy middle, lightly roasty finish. Overall - good example of the style.
