About
The Eagle Brewery was previously a Charles Wells brewery site and became part of Marston's (Carlsberg Marston's Brewing Company) wider business in May 2017. The Eagle Brewery continued to brew many of the former Charles Wells brewery brands sold to Marston's including brands such as Bombardier, Courage, and McEwan's.
The site of the Eagle Brewery was sold by the Carlsberg Marston's Brewing Company (CMBC) to S.A. Damm (Grupo Damm) in November 2022, and became Damm Eagle Brewery (this is listed separately). The Eagle brands remained with CMBC. Carlsberg purchased the remaining Marston share in 2024, and Carlsberg Britvic was formed in 2025. The Eagle beer brands thus become fully owned by Carlsberg Britvic.
Certain brands (Courage, McEwan’s and Young’s) are still produced by Carlsberg either at Northampton or Burton. These live brands have been moved to sit under Carlsberg's head office in Northampton.
This entry will remain for historic Eagle Bedford beers which, with very few exceptions, were discontinued prior to or shortly after the sale of Eagle Brewery to Damm and not moved to Northampton or Burton for ongoing production.

Cask at the Wellington, Birmingham. Poured a clear medium amber colour with a mostly lasting frothy white head. The aroma is malt, light woody hops. The flavour is moderate bitter, with a smooth, yeasty, light floral, dry, woody hop bitter palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation and a long bitter finish.

500 ml bottle. Slightly unclear brown dark red with a foamy head. Aroma is mostly nuts, dried fruits, grape juice, metal, citrus and caramel. Malty sweetness, metallic bitterness. Medium bodied, oily texture, soft soft carbonated, dry bittersweet malty finish. Decent, very Altbier like!

500ml bottle [as Bombardier Premium British Ale]. Clear, redd-ish, dark amber colour with average, frothy, half-way lasting, minimalyl lacing, off-white head. Fruity hoppy and minimally toasty, malty aroma, hints of red and blue berries with a minimally leafy, earthy touch. Taste is mellow malty, minimally dry toasty, malty, slightly fruity hoppy, hints of red and blue berries, some caramel, a touch of toffee, some leafy and earthy aspects. Minimally creamy, watery texture, smooth and soft palate, fine, soft, mildly prickly carbonation. Well balanced, clean, not too simple - very nice.

(Keg(!), ABV matches this version, at Pikkulintu, 20210930) The beer poured mahogany coloured and clear. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had strong notes of caramel and toffee and some earthy touches. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were caramel, toffee, earth, malts and unbalanced bitterness. Aftertaste was sweet, malty and bitter. A decent malty brew with good looks.

14.09.2021 - 0.5l bottle from lidl in grenzach, bb 28.02.2022. pours a clear amber with a small head. aroma of caramel, nuts, wood, somewhat stale malts, as if it were past expiry date. flavour of wood, citrus, caramel.
