Celebrational beer for the 'Bottelarij' in Ulbeek, the old St. Rochus brewery, made with Poperinge hops. Steinie bottle from Wijnegemse Drankenhal. Membrane-lacing, egg-white, mousy head with large gaps shortly after pouring but otherwise well-retaining, lightly misty straw-golden blonde robe, more misty 'old gold' with sediment. Aroma of strong DMS (overcooked Brussels sprouts), flour, banana, soap, chewing gum, coriander seed, raw parsnip, croissants, spoiling potato soup, old apple cake, wet grass, pineapple. Sweetish onset in a subdued way, soft sourish edge, bubblegummy effects mixed with green pear and pineapple, banana but not as much as expected, minerally carbonation effect but not harshly overcarbonated, in fact rather 'softish' for a Belgian blonde; supple mouthfeel, but very soapy, with a white bread dough-like character. The soapiness is further enhanced in the finishing stage by the ubiquitous coriander seed, but its spiciness remains very mild; so does hop bitterness, limiting itself to a faint floral and tea-ish effect in the end. Thinnish white bread pulp sweetishness, even slim graininess and light estery effects dominate, with not nearly enough hops to bring any kind of personality to this altogether feeble, thin and very underwhelming beer. Here we are again: the umpteenth forgettable beer with a story far greater than the beer itself. I'm so sick of this phenomenon - if only those f*cking reformations here wouldn't limit me to 1500 characters!

Heerlijk romig met lichte caramel. Zwaar bier dat heel goed in de mond ligt.
