About
The history of the brewery Achouffe is like a fairy tale. "A hobby became a profession in its own right," joke the founders Chris Bauweraerts and Pierre Gobron. The two friends begin their brewing operations in 1982 in the small Ardennes village Achouffe. In 2006 the enterprise was taken over by Duvel Moortgat Brewery. The brewery is still an independently run operation, though the 33cl bottles are bottled in Breendonk.

Bottle from Westhill Service Station. It pours clear ruby with a decent fluffy white head. The aroma is sweet, juicy, super jam, ripe raspberry, tangy, zingy, jam roly poly, gummy candy, fruit wine and berry compote. The taste is juicy, jammy, sweet, tangy, loads of raspberry, candy, slightly vinous, fruit cake, quite bright, sour candy, white sugar, apple skin and hint of alcohol with a jammy raspberry finish. Average body and moderate carbonation. Fairly one dimensional, but decent enough. Doesn't come across particularly artificial.

A World Cup Of Beers#21. BELGIUM. An international brew with the football and an apt one from Belgium to compliment their national side playing right now. I've had the full alcohol cherry version of this one and the fruit itself is notably less stated here, although it's not devoid of depth, so texturally it's enjoyable. Its aroma is full on fruit beer and the cherry is very strong here. Amber-red in colour with some sediment in my glass. Drank whilst watching the gone to Extra Time last 32 game - Belgium vs Senegal.

Bottle. Spicy Belgian yeast aroma with notes of peach, bready malt, grainy malt, citrus and coriander. Pours clear golden colored with a thin white head that has some retention and decent lacing. Starts with bright peach, bready malt and grainy malt flavors. Finishes crisp and refreshing with spicy Belgian yeast, coriander and citrus flavors. Good light Belgian blonde.

A World Cup Of Beers#5. BELGIUM. An international brew with the football, this one is dark cherry in colour, towards brown from a certain distance. The actually cherry is on the sweet side, better in aroma than taste, not the most stated but always dominating any booziness that might otherwise be found from a beer of this strength. I'd probably advise stick to the normal version of Chouffe if you only ever try one. This one was enjoyed during the fifth game of the tournament - Qatar vs Switzerland.
