Description
Barrier Brewing Co. is the collaborative effort of brewers Evan Klein and Craig Frymark, located in Oceanside, NY. Brewing their first batches on a 1bbl system (2 kegs at a time!) in June 2010, the two expanded the business to a 5bbl brewhouse in June 2012 which operated for four short months before being severely damaged by Hurricane Sandy. After several months of rebuilding, Barrier reopened in late-February 2013. The brewery currently produces nearly 50 different beers throughout the year totaling 1500bbl annually, all of which is self-distributed throughout the NY metro area.

16oz pour at One Mile House Pub NYC. Pours a clear brick red with some thin, creamy white head. Nose is citrusy, blood orange, mild pine, caramel malts, a little raisin too. Flavor is malty, sweet, bitter orange rind, some root veg, some pine, a little bread crust, a little tropical fruit punch. Full, sticky, bitter finish.

Mugs Ale House, Brooklyn cask: I had this once before on draught, but it wasn’t on ratebeer, and I couldn’t remember its whole name. Anyway, it pours a fairly clear dark red with an off-white head. Aroma is somewhat citrusy, with sort of caramel malts, but there really is more in the way of bite. The taste itself is lightly bitter. This was not nearly as sweet as would be expected. Alcohol is surprisingly well covered.
