Description
Our name, Almanac, refers to the Farmer’s Almanac, a seasonality reference guide for farmers that has been published every year in the U.S. since 1818. Our motto, “Farm to Barrel”, was adopted to reflect our passion for brewing bold and sustainably sourced beers. Farm-to-barrel brewing is about selecting the best in sustainably sourced ingredients and using them to create beers inspired by the great brewing traditions of the world. We aim to create something uniquely Northern Californian.

Almanac was founded in 2010 by Damian Fagan and Jesse Friedman, two avid home-brewers who bonded over their mutual appreciation for California farmers markets. They set out to brew beers inspired by California’s rich agricultural bounty. After nearly seven years of partner brewing, we moved into our very own 30,000 square-foot production & aging facility located on a historic naval airbase on Alameda Island in San Francisco Bay.

Can from Total Wine in Folsom, CA. Pours translucent orange tinged gold with a moderate whie head. Aroma of lemon/orange citrus over some slightly toffee/roasty malt. Med body. Flavor is very citrus orange/lemon, with roasty malt support. Citrus fruity, but dry. Definitely more than moderately bitter. Good drink.

Can from Total Wine in Folsom, CA. Pours translucent with a foamy white head. The ale's color is a sort of dilute mix of reddish berry colors. Not quite med body. Flavor is lightly tart plum pit. Dry. Tartness serves for bitter. Oak astringency is noticeable. Refreshing.

Can from The Davis Beer Shoppe. Pours clear darkish amber/copper with a large creamy white head. Aroma is woody/green tea. Med body. Flavor is hard to pin down. Bready isn't really in it. Woody works. Green tea may. Pretty dry. Definitely bitter enough. Maybe earthy is reasonable in a non-barnyard way. Very mellow and drinkable. A good experience.

Pure crisp and clear yellow coloured body with a thick, pure white head that stays afloat nicely, at least for a few minutes. Light to Medium-bodied; Very strong grassy and herbal notes dominate with a lot of pungency and crisp malt and yeast notes show with some light lemons and citrus fruits with a touch of pine here as well from the alpha acids of the hops. Light to barely Medium-bodied; Strong grassy and perfumey characteristics up front with a lot of hay and flowers right up front without much sweetness or hops at all - this really is about the clean and grassy malts with only a sliver of yeast. Aftertaste shows some herbal and grassy notes along with a slight hit of lemons and citrus fruits without too much else, but clean-drinking throughout. Overall, a nice and grassy, herbal and very fresh beer that hits nicely throughout with a slight perfumey characteristic and a dry finish from the malts without much else, but fairly easy-drinking throughout. I sampled this sixteen ounce, pint-sized can, purchased from Trader Joe's in Fairfield, California on 07-March-2022 for US$2,75 sampled a day later in my hotel room here in [downtown] San Francisco, California on 08-March-2022.
