Description
Our name, Almanac, refers to the Farmer’s Almanac, a seasonality reference guide for farmers that has been published every year in the U.S. since 1818. Our motto, “Farm to Barrel”, was adopted to reflect our passion for brewing bold and sustainably sourced beers. Farm-to-barrel brewing is about selecting the best in sustainably sourced ingredients and using them to create beers inspired by the great brewing traditions of the world. We aim to create something uniquely Northern Californian.

Almanac was founded in 2010 by Damian Fagan and Jesse Friedman, two avid home-brewers who bonded over their mutual appreciation for California farmers markets. They set out to brew beers inspired by California’s rich agricultural bounty. After nearly seven years of partner brewing, we moved into our very own 30,000 square-foot production & aging facility located on a historic naval airbase on Alameda Island in San Francisco Bay.

Can, lightly orange-pink beer with almost no head. Slight sour nose for sure, a bit vinegar like and not too powerful aroma. The flavor definitely has cherry components, super acidic, I'm afraid I don't really get vanilla but there's a hint of woodiness in there. To be honest it's not really my type of sour, too intensely acidic & lacking depth, but it's decent.

Bottle at home. Aroma of tart fruits, strawberries, vinegar, oak, funk, wine. Flavour is deliciously puckering sour with a hint of strawberry sweetness. Body is medium. Fantastic sour ale, I just love that tart fruits/sweet strawberry combination with the puckering sourness.

Can from De Bierliefhebber. Aroma is piney hops with malt, pine resin, citrus, orange, grapefruit, lightly caramel. Flavour is moderate sweet and moderate to medium bitter. Body is medium. An all-round really solid IPA, aromatically West Coast with some modern day influence, namely a relative softness of flavour.
