Description
Our name, Almanac, refers to the Farmer’s Almanac, a seasonality reference guide for farmers that has been published every year in the U.S. since 1818. Our motto, “Farm to Barrel”, was adopted to reflect our passion for brewing bold and sustainably sourced beers. Farm-to-barrel brewing is about selecting the best in sustainably sourced ingredients and using them to create beers inspired by the great brewing traditions of the world. We aim to create something uniquely Northern Californian.
Almanac was founded in 2010 by Damian Fagan and Jesse Friedman, two avid home-brewers who bonded over their mutual appreciation for California farmers markets. They set out to brew beers inspired by California’s rich agricultural bounty. After nearly seven years of partner brewing, we moved into our very own 30,000 square-foot production & aging facility located on a historic naval airbase on Alameda Island in San Francisco Bay.

Bottle. Unclear yellow body with a thin white head. Aroma is delicate and fruity, citric fruit, lemon, grapefruit, berries and grapes. Flavor is fantastic fresh and distinct but balanced acidic from sour berries, lemon, grapefruit, some passion fruit hint and hint of orange zest and mild funk. Alcohol is surprisingly well hidden/integrated. Good balanced body with a long lasting aftertaste of the same refreshing fruit/berry sourness. Very nice.

Can from The Watering Hole. Pours crystal clear gold with a full, sustained white head. Aroma of berries, lemon, sauv black skins and slight cattiness. Flavor is rather dank with stone fruit - all unexpected from the aroma. Really nice celebratory beer.

Canned 7/31/2023, drunk 3/6/2025.
Clear, deep brass. Large, off-white head, well-retained.
Nice and even and round. The oak, strawberry, malt and vanilla all share space and are well-homogenized at this point. Nothing aggressive and nothing dominates. No excess sugar or acid. Good oak presence but not overbearing.
Good oakiness mixing with authentic, delicate, not sweet strawberry character. Less vanilla in the flavor with good malt depth. Not overattenuated even after almost two years in the can. Juicy, bright, well-aged and homogenized. Lovely stuff and a lovely series. Just enough bright acidity and oak without going overboard.
