Description
At Brains we are proud to be Welsh & proud that we remain family owned.
Brains beers were brewed in the Old Brewery on St Mary Street from 1882 right up to 1999 when operating from such a tight city-centre site became unviable. Fortunately, the Cardiff Brewery behind Cardiff Central station was up for sale and Brains production moved to a new home. However exciting new redevelopments in the centre of the city have led to a further move and the building of the brand new state of the art Dragon Brewery in Cardiff Bay which was opened in March 2019.

Cask at the Old Manor (JDW), Bracknell. Copper in colour with a loose beige head; woody aroma; thin body with some demerara sugar and caramel malts; the finish is dry with some toasted oats and underlying lightly bitter hops. Seems more of a brown ale style to me.

Cask-conditioned at the Commercial Rooms (JDW), Bristol 5/04/2011. Clear reddish brown with a billowy off-white head. Sweetish aroma of caramel with some slightly toasty malts. Robust, cereal malt flavours, with some decent fruit and moderately bitter finish. Fine.

Cask. Almost clear dark brown colour. Good stable creamy tan head. The flavour starts off with a nutty Brains character, turns mild, a bit dull. Rounds off with a little rough and citric note which suits it quite well.

Half, cask at JDWs Willow Walk, Victoria. Patchy surface blanketing the glass. Clear copper coloured body. Resin-like hops to the nose followed by plenty of caramel malts in flavour and supported by dusty hops towards the end. Fresh and clean tasting. Accepted (London, 22.03.2011).

Cask at the Crosse Keys, JDW. Clear, red-brown pour with no head. Weak nose, some faint roast and brown sugar. Nice flavor, lightly sweet, some toast, faint fruit and toffee, followed by herbal bitterness. Light to medium in body with fine carbonation. Light dry finish, bit of toasty malts, mild grass hops. Not bad, quite passable.
